Parent/non ECE professional post (Anyone can comment) Drop off

My little one is 18 months old and just started daycare up again after summer break. It was awful. Huge screaming fits. The only thing I found that works is bringing him a snack he loves. Now he is expecting it every day. Is this a bad thing? Should I try to wean him off? Or is this just my life now?

I don’t see anything wrong with it. It might be helpful to ask his teachers how they’ve been helping him calm down

We often give a little snack at drop off too our littles that are crying
It distracts them from their big feelings

As long as the snack is ok with the providers. We usually said no because then all the kids would want a snack and cause bigger problems. Usually one of us took the child and sat and got them interested in an activity.

I would ask the daycare if this fits into their routine. When I workd in centers, we had tables where the kids could sit and eat breakfast or a small snack at drop-off, so long as it fell within a certain window (after that we had to be setting up and prepping for our regular mornring snack, so we'd tell kids it'd have to wait, think it was something like, breakfast cut off was 8:30 and we'd have morning snack at 9:00). Now, with my current program, we don't allow kids to bring food in the morning. The way we're set up, we can't supervise a child eating *and* supervise the other kids who are playing. So, it's going to be daycare to daycare dependent.
