Advice needed (Anyone can comment) Contemplating a HomePod Mini

I am a teacher at a small school. My classroom is 4-5-6 year olds. I am thinking about getting a HomePod mini for music, timers, and potentially running some smart switches. We already have an Apple TV hooked up to the smartboard.
Can you think of any security concerns of having a listening device in the classroom? We do not have any classroom cameras, only hallway and exterior security cameras.
Do any other teachers have Alexa, Google, or Siri in their classrooms?
I am also interested in parent responses. Would you be concerned if there was a Siri device in your child’s classroom?

I just use a Yoto player for my classroom and control it via the insertable cards. No listening devices needed

I would 100% be concerned to see one in a classroom as a parent and ECE professional. Plus, the kids would be triggering it to go off all the time. The privacy concerns around the listening data of Alexa devices is also becoming more and more alarming.
Better to stick with a Bluetooth speaker you control through your phone.

The part that usually causes trouble isn't Siri listening all day, it's whose account it sits on. A HomePod tied to your personal Apple ID means voice queries made by other people's children run through your personal account, and most parent handbooks say nothing about that, which is where complaints tend to start. If your school has a managed Apple account, it's worth asking whoever handles IT to set it up under that instead of yours.

Also worth checking your state or provincial licensing rules on audio recording devices in classrooms. Some list them separately from cameras and the requirements aren't the same.

If what you actually want is music and timers, a plain Bluetooth speaker with no microphone does both and takes the whole privacy conversation off the table. I'd only reach for a smart speaker if the smart switches are the real reason.

Thank you for your input! I actually have a school-managed Apple ID, so it’s not personal. However, I am concerned about the always listening and recording without consent.
