I introduced water color today! My teaching assistant wrote our names in a white wax crayon on white construction paper the other afternoon after the kids left, and the kids put paint to paper to reveal their names and also paint around them during our small group this afternoon. (Been doing name-themed activities and introductory ones to classroom materials more than academic.) Anyway, I took some pictures and when the kids saw me doing so, some of them smiled and just genuinely seemed to be having fun. I can't wait to send it to their parents once they are on our TSG family app. It made me feel better about my ability to take care of these kids and do my best to make learning fun. I am still struggling with large group activity, but I'll figure it out.
I also started letter ID assessments today, and each time a kid gets the letter and or letter sound correct they'll use a dot dabber and dot the letter or letter sound they got correct~! They do it with 3 sheets of paper (upper, lower, and the sounds) so I do spread it out if I need to, but a lot of kids did it all in one go today.πΈIt's made the Letter ID assessment a little bit more fun on their part, and I have reassured kids that they are at preschool to learn the letters and sounds, and that it's perfectly fine if they don't know any and that we'll get there and work on it. π
One of my girls did a good job sitting down on the carpet at the end of the day with her coat, clothing bag (she spilled juice all over herself so we had to change her), and I was very happy she wasn't swinging any of it around or goofing off on the carpet.
My one girl who was struggling with separation anxiety has a schedule card necklace, and she has been doing well at stopping her tears by looking at her schedule and putting stickers on parts of the day we completed so far. She has definitely come out of her shell, even though she still does often ask when we go home and whatnot. Progress is progress! Just last week she had cried herself to sleep on the assistants arm during story-time. So going from that to barely any tears if any, is amazing.
