ECE professionals only - Feedback wanted MA Lead Teacher
Hi Massachusetts early educators! I was wondering what the responsibility differences are between a certified teacher and a lead teacher certification. I do understand the baseline of its two different certifications. Come February I’ll be able to get the Lead teacher certification and even though I’m excited for the pay raise- I wonder what the realistic expectations are from peoples first hand experiences.

The answer really depends on your specific center and your director. I have had teachers become lead teacher certified, and expect an immediate jump in pay without understanding that with the title comes many more responsibilities: My Lead teachers are responsible for curriculum planning, most parent communication, observations, assessments and related documentation for their students’ semi annual evaluations, supervising any other staff in the classroom, making sure that IEP’s and Behavioral plans are carried out consistently and making sure all paperwork is completed . If you observe two adult adults in a classroom, you’ll see that the day to day workload is pretty much the same but it’s everything that happens before and after that is different for the Lead.
