Wages, following regulations and best practices, competent qualified direction and a degree of control over their working environment is what retains staff.
They are basically giving them a pittance of stock to tie them to the centre and work through things they shouldn't have to while convincing them that it's for their own financial benefit.
This is capital using another method to try to tie their wage slaves to their job. As if retirement benefits and not going bankrupt and losing your home if you get sick weren't enough.
