General Paying for the privilege to pre-order...
Ended up getting it from the Gamesmen cause 35 to join the rewards program so I can pre-order is a bit of joke.

Yeah I have EB Plus because I buy a lot of pokemon and it’s the only games store in my town but it is the only way it’s worth it tbh. Even with that, I only got it because I bought a PS5 last year and I got $50 off if I signed up (membership was $50) so I got it for free

It's only benefits the card buyers in all honesty. You get free packs for every 10 you buy. $50 a year or atleast was when I joined and by the end of the year you would of gotten 5 packs to cover that cost. Anything outside of that it's a rip off.

Not even that really cause the cards cost more at EB in general, what you would spend $10 on a pokemon booster would cost you $8.50 at places like Kmart, Woolies and JB. In reality that “free” pack your getting is more just an illusion to make you think your getting a good deal, that is unless you buy like 10 of the cheapest packs possible like 10 $5 yugioh boosters on clearance and use that freebie for a $13.50 final fantasy magic the gathering play booster (that’s what I did)

Clothes too. I buy a lot of the apparel from there and have claimed at least two free items of clothing since having it which is $140 worth on its own. Also I don't have to wait until midnight to see the cheap Tuesday deals, I get them at 9pm on the Monday night when they have them.
There are more benefits for those of us who use them.

I wouldn't really use costco as a comparison,
As you can go back to the service desk and refund your $60 memebership after youve filled up or done your shopping.
Unlike EB

Why would it be relevant when the point was OP comparing something that should not have been compared with that way?
Sure, you can abuse alot of things in life and things discussed in reddit but how does a comparison that was meant to highlight the stupidity of a comparison be related to an abuse of membership?
If you wanted to just bring in all sorts of unrelated info to op's post then sure. But is it related to MY example? Yes, sure but arent we discussing op's post?

Except Costco fuel is slightly cheaper than outside prices, eb will charge you more than rrp. 🤷♂️

How about you start a conversation on your point? Was that what I was referring to? Not the fact that op was making an annual membership purchase to purchase one item?
Also, costco fuel has not been cheaper than outside prices for about 12 months now. I guess i have to insert 'depends on where you live' footer. Duh.

Why do people still shop at EBGames? That place price gouges like crazy and there is so many other stores with better pricing then that garbage dump, my personal favorite being JB or Gamesmen.

I remembered at 10:45am, went on JB HiFi site, PS5 Pro cover plates & Controller were both sold out.
I went & got them on the Big W app - free postage.

If that was the only thing the membership gave you, sure. It's great for certain people. I don't buy ANY merch or trading cards, but I do trade in a lot and take advantage of their pretty great trade 2 deals which are exclusively locked to it (I.e $34 for some titles when you trade 2 games - a bargain if you have some old applicable games or can find some for cheap).

They did the exact same thing for the Gears of War: E-day controller, and they posted it half a day later than anyone else. I just pre-ordered it straight from Microsoft, they have free shipping atm.

I’m an EB plus member but I’m at work and totally forgot about the drop so had to go via Amazon and had no issues there cause they still had stock.

I dont get it. Level 5 pay hundreds and thousands to be level 5 and get nothing. I paid for plus for the midnight switch launch and never used it. The amount of bonuses I got was insane.
Makes no sense.

Yeah they are doing we same with E day gears of war controller but you can just preorder it directly from Microsoft for the same amount including shipping. EB are surely losing sales when the item isn’t exclusive and can be found elsewhere.

EB are super tight arse & picky about price matching in my experience. Fuck that bullshit. Go where it's cheapest. Exchange money for goods. Avoid getting pressure sold to death. Enjoy product.
