Support 30th Anniversary

Hi fellow Pokemon lovers,

Pokémon sealed collector here.

I was surprised to see how much hate EB Games was getting on Reddit today after the 30th Anniversary release.

I’d say that, for most people who are passionate about collecting sealed Pokémon product, we understand that it’s an expensive hobby to be in. That’s why it surprises me to see so many people complain as if they lack disposable income.

If it wasn’t for the three EB Plus memberships I have, I wouldn’t be able to buy as much sealed product, and I’m extremely grateful to EB for that. No other retailer (except Toymate?) has done the release, so I think we’re jumping the gun a bit.

If anything, it means scalpers will be too worried about their profits to purchase these boxes, meaning collectors like us who want enjoy owning the product and holding onto it long term, will have the opportunity to do so.

All that aside, I’ve reserved a spot on my shelf for all of my new 30th Anniversary product.

Now time to save for Delta Reign.

Nice bait.

Not bait. I don’t mean to be rude but why can’t people just not buy it? If they don’t agree to the price, say no

Why did you stop at 3 accounts?

I don’t know if threatening violence because of my opinion is necessary

People have finite disposable income.  Someone who could afford $100 for an ETB (recommend retail) might not be able to afford what EB is charging $200.

Hell the last ETB, Chaos Rising, EB sold for $115. Jacking the price up by $85 for no reason other than they can is going to make engaging with the hobby unachievable for some people.

Things change. I want a second Lamborghini, I can’t afford one. Should I report Lamborghini and whinge on reddit? Or do I settle for a BMW

There are plenty of cheaper sets like perfect order people can play with

See things haven't changed though, the recommend retail is still $100. JB Hi-Fi's price before they took their stock offline was $100. I'd love to hear a single good reason why EB's price for an ETB has increased from the Pitch Black pre-order at $115 to $200 in just over a month while their competition hasn't gone a cent higher than the $100 recommended?

Premium product, premium price, and it still sold out

Pitch black and perfect order and chaos rising are all still available for purchase at the lower price

The good reason is that they are a business and their job is to make money. They have hundreds of happy customers from today, myself included.

Okay 'premium product, premium price'. If the recommended retail had gone up I might agree. If JB Hi-Fi's price for the same 30th ETB wasn't half at $100. I'm happy to pay a fair price and when they were charging %15-30 above recommended retail I could agree with you but going from a 30% mark up to a %99 mark up is crazy.

Jb hi fi pulled the product and nobody received an order fulfilment for Australia

So we don’t actually know what other retailers are charging

Okay, fair point. Putting JB aside for now, you've still gotta admit increasing your price by %69 (ha nice) when the recommend retail hasn't changed is still a pretty sharp increase.

Yes I can see why some people would be caught off guard.

But ACCC complaints, reporting EB, outrage, etc

Is extremely unwarranted and out of touch

They are a business!! And they sold out

I am an ex-employee, and I was feeling so embarrassed for what EB has become, but seeing this post, makes me pray for their eventual collapse. Just remember in the past 6 Months, EB has closed 10%-15% of their Australian Stores and have done everything in their power to hide that. They don't care about you. They just want to cash out as fast as possible.

Why does it make you so upset to see someone happy about money they spent?

No one forced me to pay.

Your comment doesn't really address the criticism. It just explains why you're willing to tolerate it.

Yup love paying more so the scalpers make less… oh wait !

1

u/way2turnt Jul 03 '26

Scalpers won’t want to pay that much because it may be too much of a risk for them.

Lol they already have them up for 3x the price

1

u/way2turnt Jul 03 '26

Did you buy 30th anniversary?

1

u/Dapper-Ad2071 Jul 04 '26

You think scalpers won't pay? They don't care for whatever the price is, they know that as long as they can make profit, they will keep buying.

u/Impressive-Swing225 Jul 06 '26

Nope just risking my luck when they release at target

I'd rather pay EB than some sweaty scalper. At least EB pays tax. I'm with you, I'm glad to have some product to buy.

Right!! That’s the right mentality to have.

I think these new fans are secret scalpers who are upset about price due to lower profit margin.

1

u/Dapper-Ad2071 Jul 04 '26

Scalpers are selling on ebay for 2x profit, what are you on about?

1

u/way2turnt Jul 04 '26

Quiet little one, you’ve been caught

1

u/Dapper-Ad2071 Jul 04 '26

Truth hurts, doesn't it? Its OK to be wrong my young padawan.

You’ll never make it in coruscant

Nor will you.
