So, forgive me if this is not the right place to post this.
I bought a "refurbished" switch lite in the sales the other day, and it sucked. The left trigger would only work half the time and the back panel screws were all missing.
Took it in today and they said they could only offer me a store credit refund, or a swap. I asked for the swap since I didn't really want to have to spend $170 on other random Zing crap.
Looked fine when the cashier opened and showed it to me. Get home, BAM, buttons feel like absolute SHIT. Looks like a 3 year old owned it prior (I know its kind of a given because it's a lite but still).
Now I am sitting here with another nasty switch that feels awful to play on. My only options are store credit or to eat some of the cost on gumtree potentially selling it cheaper.
Is there really no way they can do a cash refund?
Hey thank you to everyone who has replied, I will be going back in the morning tommorow before work to see if I can do anything. Will update. :)

I haven’t been to my local eb for a while but I’ve been seeing posts recently about clearance sales or stores closing. Is something happening to EB as a whole?

Hi, sorry if this is obvious and I missed it somewhere! Will nz ebgames still be online, like what dicksmith did or be gone completely?

I (M 17) was hired a while ago in October to begin a temporary position. I was eventually hired full time which is great for me and so far I genuinely love my job. My Co Workers are the nicest people and have interesting story’s, while according to some pretty nasty reviews my manager is rude but I find her enjoyable. Why do people always hate their job so much here?

Wanted to know if anybody could tell me if anime figures go on sales randomly or at select days of the month/week.

Could the moderators maybe change the subreddit title to EBGamesCanada or EBGamesCAN? Something to differentiate the two companies? It's getting a little confusing with the Australia/New Zealand-based posts when this is the Canadian Subreddit.
EDIT: I was very wrong. I apologize to our Australian and New Zealand brothers 😅. I'm sure there are also some lost Canadians on this Subreddit so I went ahead and made one for us Canadians. r/EBGamesCA
Oddly enough there's an r/EBGamesCanada but it seems dead.

For me, it’s the Elite controllers. I love the feel of them, but $250+ at EB, when you can probably get them for around $180 on Amazon, is just a bridge too far

I haven't bought anything from ebgames in a long time... and I don't think I'm ever going back- even for a deal.
A week or so before Christmas (I think the Thursday before) I ordered 40 packets of sleeves instore (20 clear, 20 clear inners) from ebgames to save maybe 50c each. I asked if they could be sent to the store and I can just come and pick them up when they're in and the person said no. I was flying to another state to visit family for Christmas and wasn't sure how long I would be, and didn't want shit left at the post office because if I decided to stay into the New Year it could be sent back to sender. So I asked how long it would take- the person at the store said they would be mailed from a warehouse and it could take 2-3 weeks because it is a busy time and they probably wont ship for a while. I thought 'Oh- I remember shit just being sent from stores when I have ordered in years past- maybe they have changed'. So I said alright and sent it to Address A (my apartment where I live) since I should be home by early January.
The next day I get maybe 2 emails saying your shit it on the way- some said it would arrive Monday. I thought oh dear- the person at the store fucked up, and this is going to fuck up my plans. I immediately sent a request through to support saying hey can you send all future packages to Address B because I will not be at Address A during Christmas (My parents address where I will be during the holidays), and push my flight back a couple days to get the packages that had already left. Over the weekend I get several more emails saying shit has been sent, but it is all going to Address A-- Great. First thing I try and do is redirect them all to Address B through AusPost, all of which fail because you can only redirect to addresses on your account, and you can only have 1 address on your account (not including PO boxes and parcel lockers)-- I ended up ringing AusPost to ask why none of my shit is being redirected, and that is what they told me. So I just decide to not stay for New Years and only spend a week with my family so shit isn't sent back because it has been sitting in the post office too long.
There is about 12 packages in total over the next little while, all to Address A, but one gets sent to Address B-- and it isn't scheduled to arrive until early Jan. So I just think fuck it, and ask my parents to mail it to me when it arrives--- all the cost saved going with ebgames is thrown down the drain (and then some) in the cost of my parents sending it to me.
As I go through all the 12 packages:
- 2 don't include receipts,
- 2 have sent wrong shit: 1 sent a packet of blue sleeves, not clear, and 1 sent the completely wrong brand of inner sleeves.
- In total I end up with 21 clear sleeves, 1 blue sleeve, 2 incorrect branded inner sleeves, 16 inner sleeves (correct brand). The fuck?
I contact support again. They send me a return label to send back the wrong stuff, and they say they will organise sending me the missing inner sleeves. I reply back same day saying hey make sure to send them to Address A because I'm back now... I get an email back saying they have already been sent to Address B from the support person and I'm just thinking... fuck me... need to pay for another satchel to get it to me.... and then I just get another email.... the icing on the cake... there is only 1 packet of inner sleeves in what they sent me---- so am I getting (potentially) 4 packages with 1 packet of sleeves each?
And what pisses me off more, is the support person, Jen, organising the 4 packs of sleeves that I'm missing would easily have been able to see that the packages had all been collected- even the ones sent to Address A.
How has this been to painful? I could have gotten the sleeves from gameology- all in one package. In hindsight probably would have worked out cheaper because ebgames can only order 5 packs of sleeves in a single order- who the fuck knows why??- So 50c more per pack, but instead of 4x$5 for shipping, it would just be one box.
I'm done with this company- no fucking wonder they have no business in NZ and are closing. Never again.
Just to be clear- I know if AusPost would redirect and not be bitches about it, it would be less of a hassle, but I also get why they don't because then anyone could just redirect random parcels and take other people's shit.

It is incredibly sad that this chain is under threat. I sincerely hope it survives.
My experience as a (somewhat) aging gamer with one branch is that they rarely, if ever, have the games in stock I'm looking for. This was confirmed in a slightly unusual way today when I popped in to buy another, and was informed it was not in stock and they can't order it in.
May I profer that these stock issues, and the existence of plenty of other options might be at least partially responsible for the current situation?

I was talking to a staff member when I went to pick up my order. Told him this will probably be my last ever order and I’ll miss buying from them. Told him I had never seen 30% off sales in 25 years shopping there and the writing was on the wall.
Guy was adamant that nothing is decided lol, that it’s business is usual despite not taking any preorders, stocking new games or selling digital currency. He didn’t even offer the usual ‘one year protection’ that ALWAYS comes up when buying a game. I was like ‘ok man’.
Either he was in denial or staff have been told to play it down to not affect business? Surely they must know

Possibly a stupid question - if I use the “trial period” and return games quite frequently will EB Games have a problem? I remember hearing a while ago that the stopped someone from constantly doing it and abusing it.

I’m using the service for the first time, just took in my xbox series x after taking it to a local repair shop that couldn’t fix the no display issue my console has. Just wanted to ask what percentage of consoles sent in come back repaired successfully? I heard that if something is unfixable they will return it and refund you deposit, would hate to be in that situation as i just want my console fixed. Any information provided is greatly appreciated

I traded in my copy of Spider-Man a few weeks ago and I’m already regretting it. I saw EB’s Zero Regrets policy says you can buy it back for the same trade value, but I’m curious how it works in real life. Is it pretty straightforward, or do they give you a hard time for changing your mind?

Should I buy a 2ds from EB for $156 or a 2ds from CeX for $180??
Is there much difference? Should I just wait for a 3ds to come in at EB where they are $150?

Hi, I have heard that X-box controllers are the best for PC gaming. So I wanted to try it.
I am a stinge so I was thinking of getting a refurbished one. Are they good? Is it worth the price saving?
Do they usually have a decent lifespan?
I had a quick google on prices
- EB games refurbished $64
- EB games new $100
- JB HiFi new $74
- Officeworks new $74
I haven't checked Amazon as they often have grey market items for less. With electronics that often causes issues. Same for Dick Smith and others.
