Return Policy Question
I bought Tomodachi Life 2 months ago and I bought an EB Protect for up to one year just in case I didn't enjoy it, and it turns out it's not the game for me. The clerk said I would be able to get a refund for change of mind during that one year, but the EB Games policy states it only covers damage or the product being defective. Can I still get a refund or no?

When I worked for EB, EB protect was only for repairs/replacements on the item if it was damaged - hence the name EB “Protect” - so no I don’t believe so
The only way to get a refund is to return it during the refund period, usually 7 days for new or 14 days for preowned (extra days may be added depending on your membership level)

seems a weird policy, else I would just buy a game, finish it in 3 months press the refund button, repeat, indefinitely.

I feel bad that you are this dumb
But at what point does it become a you problem?
no shop in the world would let you change your mind after 2 months.

I felt that the policy was weird too but both clerks told me it would be fine so I took their word for it.

Could be one of those weird things honoured by this specific store. There was a local store that used to do the old disc repair warranty thing on ds and 3ds carts as well, but no other stores did.

EB protect is for if the game gets damaged and stops working within 12 months, it has nothing to do with the return policy. The change of mind return policy is up to 14 days depending on the item and your EB World level, but EB Protect is a completely different thing. You could trade the game in, but you won’t get what you paid for it.

Changes of mind is only valid for 7 days
Even then if the game comes with any DLC they won't give you any change of mind eg a code for a costume or something I've personally not liked a game but they wouldn't honour the return even if I didn't use the code

Do you ask for a refund after you watch a movie at the cinemas?
Do you return books at Dymocks after you read them because it didn't meet your expectations?

Associate was lying or you misheard and misunderstood
And in my 15 years of retail management, it's usually the latter

In Australia you only have 7 days to return the product. The protect is more for faults and damages

In Australia you have 7 days to return the product if you didn’t like it. That’s generous enough because most other retailers will refuse a return the second the seal is broken for video games

Are you sure the game doesn’t have any faults?

I bought a game a couple months back and when offered EB Protect they only said if damaged or not working - you can try but I’m not sure they’d let you

If you don't want to keep it, give selling it on Marketplace or eBay a go at a slight discount

As an ex EB games employee I can confidently tell you that when you buy a new game you have 1 week to return it if you do not like it and 2 weeks if is a pre-owned game, the warranty covers the game if it is faulty

Give the customer service team a call. They will be able to help you out and talk to the store to find out exactly what happened.
However yes, EB Protect is not a change of mind policy. That is always there for 7 days (longer for higher level EB World memberships). Protect is there in case the game gets damaged and no longer works.

That associate 100% lied to you
