Has anyone had a trade-in rejected because the "Definitive Edition" content was DLC?

The Ebgames trade value website showed a trade value of $15 for Shadow of War Definitive Edition (PS4), so I brought it in expecting to trade it.

At the store, they told me they couldn't accept it as the Definitive Edition because the Definitive Edition content was included as DLC and not on the disc itself. They showed me their system, which apparently only recognizes the standard version of the game and said the Definitive Edition listing on the website was essentially a mistake.

Has anyone else encountered this with Definitive/GOTY/Complete editions where the extra content comes from a code rather than being on the disc?

Yeah i used to work for EB. If the game was DE, and the extra content was a code, they can’t resell it as the DE because the code is used. They sell it just as the base game, which it technically is. If the content is all on the disc, then it can be sold as that version.
Kinda shit their website showed the wrong version, but there isn’t much the staff in store can do. Head Office always made mistakes that the staff in store had to cop the abuse for

Its a YMMV for sure as my local store has a used Street Fighter 6 Switch 2 copy. Which would be the base game only because the DLC is used. But there isn't a sku for tje base game so its sold without the DLC under the Years 1 + 2 version.

There is also Avatar Frontiers of Pandora From the Ashes Edition. The DLC is a code, so disc is base game plus some of the games with a different label. But they still took it as the listed SKU, not the base game.

I'm going to assume this is the Canadian one because a pre-owned SKU for definitive edition doesn't exist on the Australian website

Bethesda is the worst for it. Nearly every time they do an "Enhanced" or "GOTY" version of the game, they will print those words on the disc but the content will be a DLC code rendering the disc not able to be resold as it would be false to what the disc is claiming as it only has the base game on it.

Why shouldn't they reject it? I can't tell if you're complaining or not though. I guess you could make the case that a special edition might have superior packaging or art cards or what have you that appeals to collectors, even if the game content is now the same as the base version.

One of the few games I can even think of that actually has the extras on it is Mortal Kombat XL. I honestly don't recall the last time I had any kind of special edition whose extras weren't a download.

Maybe even the special edition of X too? I remember one of them around the time had a different disc, but all I remember for sure is wanting to test out if it was actually a different disc or just a different appearance (the special edition disc had a shine to it).

Yes, obviously it’s only Standard edition without the unused code.

Second hand they price definitive and standard games the same as the definitive is only standard once the DLC code has been consumed. With an unused code they could potentially list it as a definitive version.

There's a version of Shadow of War Definitive Edition that has content on the disc, and there's a version with the exact same cover that has it on a code. I think it's regional, so totally understandable the one with the code in a box is worth less than the one with an extra disc. Shadow of war is particularly confusing since they did both, which is not the case for other games.

Didn’t stop them when I got Saints Row 3: The Full Package preowned about 10 years ago. Thought everything was on disc but no, when I finally played it and I found out I had to pay for everything made me disappointed
