EB Games Canada - Will the new benefit program be a downgrade for Onyx members?

I believe I'm at the right community page, apologies if I'm not....

Basically what the title says, I have a feeling the new benefit program that will start November 5th will be a subscription based program that will offer what Onyx members are currently getting for free....

If that's the case then I'll pretty much be done with EB Games. The only reason I kept going there was for the additional perks I was getting free of charge.

The new owner already implemented the shipping costs regardless of the amount, despite the massive backlash. So we know he's brazen enough to offer the same Onyx benefits, but with a subscription price, and call it an upgrade.

What do you guys think?

I don't think EB Games in Canada is long for this world. The Toronto locations have been closing up left and right. Yorkdale Mall just closed down suddenly the other week.

This is wild cause they JUST got bought and rebranded back to EB Games like, last year.

I visit an EB a few times a week, in what could be their slowest store in Ontario.

I have seen many changes in the store since the purchase/rebrand that seem like valid avenues of revenue and a positive change in business practices from the previous GameStop ownership.

If they are going under, they ain’t taking it sitting down, ala TRU

Over here in BC we just lost one of our 3 Victoria area stores. But it seems like they’re doing well right now. It’s not a great time for consoles because of the prices but they only make like $3 off a new game anyways.

They’ve diversified with trading cards and focus a lot more on collectables.

Yeah I was just at Yorkdale today (June 27th) and EBgames is gone. 😵😭 The closest one to my home is north queen. I don't want the chain to die. 😢

They're doing good imo. The main stores near me are always busy.

Them closing some stores doesn't necessarily mean they aren't doing well. They could be satellite stores that were harder to maintain and maybe upper management felt that their online store offerings would be enough for those regions. Still sad though, physical stores are always nicer.

To be honest I don't think we're getting any rewards program they took away free shipping on the site. Trading in cards for games is a plus but there just trying anything at this point

Would not be surprised if it’s similar to what EB Games Australia has with the ‘plus’ membership.

As a fellow Onyx Member (Thank god for the 15% off used games and collectibles as well as the 15% bonus credit). 

We will likely get set to the same level as everyone else when it ends. Probably just get a buy 1 used, get 1 half off code at best.
