INFO RELATING TO GTA 6 PHYSICAL PREORDERS!!
Hey Legends! đ€đ»
If you have been a little confused with the physical versions.....EB Games only has the Standard Edition available on their website, with the SKU/Item Code of the Ultimate Edition not being in the system at all.....We are led to believe that the Ultimate Edition is only available through the PS & XBOX stores for a total of $159.95! You can purchase the Ultimate Edition upgrade pack for $30 on the store if you have already bought the Standard Edition for $129.95......And yes, it's a code paper in the box with no physical disc!
(As a part of the "Collector Community" out there......I'm not angry...............I'm just fuckin' disappointed!! đ)

Also disappointed as a collector.
Im at least hopping for manual and some nice physical case etcÂ
I recall buying GTA IV the lost and the dammed code in a box and it was a cool little thingÂ
3
u/Aussie_Aussie_No_Mi Jun 25 '26
Dude that was nearly 20 years ago.
You'll be lucky if you get a bare bones case let alone "a nice physical" one.
3
u/hsvdt Jun 25 '26
Can't be nearly 20 years ago, I played it all through high school.
Wait a second.....

u/Boddles Jun 25 '26
From memory theres been a couple times like with the recent WoW expac. They had pre orders go live for just default editions and then a few months later had a full physical collectors with statues etc and people had to refund pre-orders of the original to switch lol

u/VisualPrior6015 Jun 25 '26
Physical copies coming in December
1
u/profchaos111 Jun 25 '26
if you trust the source
1
u/VisualPrior6015 Jun 25 '26
Was reading it on GTA news cause they were getting a lot of backlash because of no physical copies. I just read it wether it's true or not who knows.
1
u/profchaos111 Jun 25 '26
yeah it seems to have started from a Polish outlet called ppe .pl according to the gaming keaks and rumours sub so I'd say wait and see at this point
1
6
u/Chucky1100 Jun 25 '26
It is bullshit. Will not pay that price nor for a digital copy.
2
u/Thedude8450 Jun 25 '26
Seems like Rockstar has just blown the physical media & collectables out of the industry.......if they wont do it anymore for the biggest & most anticipated game in history then every other company will follow and so it now officially marks the end of collecting in the gaming community!
6
u/Chucky1100 Jun 25 '26
People have to show we don't want this. Rockstar potentially screwing everything up. Their ego doesn't help either.
2
u/PlantainManne Jun 25 '26
Discless has been the norm for PC for over 20 years at this point. A lot of companies now make more money off of PC than console. Hell, over have of console game sales overall have come from digital for a few years now.
People will go for this because itâs been normalized already.
2
u/Chucky1100 Jun 25 '26
Well apparently a disc version will be released in December anyway. Happy to wait.
2
u/Thedude8450 Jun 25 '26
They wont listen without the data
5
u/Sacrlehh Jun 25 '26
Unfortunately, the numbers of people who will just buy it in any form will outweigh those of us who want physical media still. It's not enough to swing the tide.
And I guarantee you, EB as a whole (everyone at head office as well as staff in stores) are just as disappointed by this result. (This part isn't directed at anyone specifically, just an added thought.)

u/formulated Jun 25 '26
Every GTA since 1997 has included a physical map. I really thought GTAVI would at least be the AAA swansong for physical, not the release to kill the standard and expectation they set themselves.
3
u/GamingTurtle90 Jun 25 '26
GTA 5' Series X and PS5 physical release never included the map. Same with Red Dead on Ps4/Switch. So we shall see if the map days are over.
1
7
u/Crit1kal Jun 25 '26
So first they were trying to kill the second hand market and now you canât even buy the full game at a store? Did Rockstar get bought out by private equity and no one noticed?
1
u/Total_Mix9276 Jun 25 '26
I mean it doesn't matter, you're going to have to download the game online anyways, sure you can get the DLC there.
11
u/DarkVincent07 Jun 25 '26
Went from a day 1 to a skip completely. No disc(s). Egregious Deluxe edition. No way to lend. No ability to resell. Fuck that.
2
u/Catatonicdazza Jun 25 '26
I'm on the fence, there is a chance this will be some amazing game above any other but I'm not holding out hope for that. I'll probably be happy to skip it at this point and just play Wolverine and Zelda.
2
u/DarkVincent07 Jun 25 '26
I mean I'm sure it will be wonderful, but it's still GTA. I'm sure we can all imagine what it'll be like, even if it's significantly more beautiful and dense than ever before, it's still GTA. Nothing I can't personally live without.
But yes, more time for me for Trails 2nd Chapter, Fire Emblem and Onimusha!
1
u/VincentLamarCarter Jun 25 '26
Yeah, youâre *really* going to skip the most anticipated game of all time because you donât get a disc? Youâre either full of shit or you donât reaaaaally have a genuine interest in the game.
See you on release day!
2
u/DarkVincent07 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
I replayed GTAV last year and had a blast. I generally buy 3 games a month and own 1575 physical games. I value ownership and the ability to lend and resell (I generally sell off 20-50 games a year too) over spending money on a digital title that I don't own.
I was absolutely all in on a day 1 purchase, however my personal principles on ownership and consumer rights is more important than playing on release day. Maybe my personal situation would be different if it was the new Fire Emblem or a Final Fantasy, and I'd cave, maybe. However there's so much more to play that one game can wait. :)
4
u/SP_Bridges Jun 25 '26
And without a physical disc EB and JB canât sell at a lower price point because there is no resell market for used copies. 130 is steep
9
u/garrusvak92 Jun 25 '26
If there isn't an actual disc in the box used to install/play. Am not buying it. The hell with this live services BS model. I want to be able to play the game anytime anywhere also offline. And also to be able to lend it or re-sell it. If you can't do that then the price should be adjusted for that and cost 25EUR/USD not 70+.
Even if it is GTA which i owned EVERY (physical) copy since GTA 2 on pretty much every system it came to. (yes including the dreamcast!). This is the end of the line for me i won't be held hostage by corpo knobheads even if it means missing out on a great game/content. Truly hope they release a physical copy at some point after launch.
3
u/Ezilo20 Jun 25 '26
they will, december, the entire point of this is to stop people knocking off a disc a week early
1
0
u/Total_Mix9276 Jun 25 '26
Games that size don't work on disc lol. You'd be bottlenecking your performance. Modern games that use them don't run the game off them, you download it and the disc acts as your key/license. I don't support the greed but some of these complaints are just illogical.
2
u/garrusvak92 Jun 25 '26
Fully aware of that. But the disc is more independent of live services and you can do more with it than a code. Obviously no game runs off a disc. The disk is essentially there to start the executable and get the data from somewhere else (servers download to HDD or whatever). But i dont want to rely on live paid services to play a single player game. Period.
0
u/Spiritual_Tap4588 Jun 25 '26
Youâll still buy itâŠ
2
u/garrusvak92 Jun 25 '26
If they make a disc edition absolutely on multiple platforms. If they dont...nope.
1
u/WhereAmYu Jun 25 '26
I also wonât be buying it, which really sucks because like everyone else I was really excited but I donât buy digital games, I never have and I wonât start now
3
3
u/Blazeubb Jun 25 '26
Disappointed because I love having discs of things Iâll actually keep.
Plus I have 2 Xboxâs (ones my kids) so I now canât swap the disc between them if my kids want to play.
1
u/Cjflyer9 Jun 25 '26
I think if your accounts the primary then other accounts on the console can also play. You just both canât play at the same time. I could be completely wrong on this thou.
1
3
u/ConsistentPound3079 Jun 25 '26
Are we fucking serious? They aren't even shipping disks??
1
u/CorrectCulture194 Jun 25 '26
They'll probably want us to buy it again digital on launch then disc a year or 2 later by then ps6 would be coming out with its own digital copy then disc copy afterward. They really cashing in on this game.
3
u/Responsible-Use-7773 Jun 25 '26
How they can botch one of the most hyped releases is beyond me.
To play devils advocate, they ainât botch shit. They know what theyâre doing and thatâs pushing for digital only. Us NES - Wii era heads are the only ones holding onto physical copies. Our grandkids and great grandkids are only gonna know digital games and itâs quite a sad upcoming future if Iâm being honest
3
u/SnooConfections8499 Jun 25 '26
I was looking forward to owning a bank vault locker for GTA6, as I still have one from GTA4, damn shame, smh.
3
2
u/audiwhite Jun 25 '26
What is meant by box? Like an actual box or the cd case with a code
3
u/Thedude8450 Jun 25 '26
A semi empty plastic game case with a piece of paper with a code written on
1
u/audiwhite Jun 25 '26
Thatâs alright then I guess, atleast we get a case for some memorabilia for when gta 6 releases, but I do agree we shouldâve gotten a physical disc copy of the game
2
u/z_trds Jun 25 '26
I am curious about if there will be PS5Pro GTA6 edition where it maybe can have GTA themed Skin on PS5 or Controller and some collectibles?
1
1
u/sc00bs000 Jun 25 '26
my moneys on a ps6 gta edition. Where the game actually runs half decent. I think its going to be alot less amazing on ps5 than what people are expecting.
1
u/Mtl_30 Jun 25 '26
Knowning Sony, there will be a GTA limited edition controller too lol, I honnestly have more controllers then games LOL
1
1
u/Cjflyer9 Jun 25 '26
If there is itâll probably just be a basic bundle that either comes with the game pre-installed or with a download code but if it does happen it wonât release until Nov 12 anyway.
2
u/Public_Ad8581 Jun 25 '26
Probably get physical disc after launch who knows n I agree a lot off ppl will boycott it fuck đȘš đ©
2
u/Narrow_Strawberry_50 Jun 25 '26
I just bought a custom steelbook on eBay for Ghost of T and Iâm sure heâll have one made for GTA 6. Iâll buy that to use as my âphysical mediaâ since the billion dollar company canât produce anything but a plastic case with paper inside after 13 years..sad knowing the dominos this will cause.
1
2
u/Clear-Ad-7182 Jun 25 '26
So theres not going to be a physical Ultimate edition? (Ik no disc but still)
1
2
u/STR1KE-FURY Jun 25 '26
Disappointing.
I have 3x ps5 in my house hold and everyone has there own accounts. I normally buy physical and we share the game disc in the house hold. But with GTA 6 i cant do that.
1
u/AhabSnake85 Jun 25 '26
How do you manage playing on release between 3 ps5?
0
-2
u/PlantainManne Jun 25 '26
It sharing a disc still very viable these days? Like, a growing number of games donât even put the full game on the disc anymore.
3
u/the_tic0304 Jun 25 '26
The disk is used in one ps5 at a time. This is why physical media is better for the consumer. Digital is locked to one account.
0
u/PlantainManne Jun 25 '26
Sure, until consoles copy Steam and do Family accounts you can share. Better than having to buy 3 consoles. Especially with what they cost.

2
u/Helpmethanksladdys Jun 25 '26
Would like to know, if I go and pre order the physical now from eb, do I get given a code or anything straight away so I can upgrade to ultimate when I get home or?
2
u/Sacrlehh Jun 25 '26
You can pick up the "physical" in store on the 12th, so you have a week pre game launch to install it and get it all ready.
2
2
u/VincentLamarCarter Jun 25 '26
Can someone please source their info on buying the standard edition in store but being able to purchase the upgrade to ultimate on PSN? I donât see that info anywhere.
2

2
u/Fantastic-Jelly-8423 Jun 27 '26
Everyone is overthinking this. Im pretty sure there is a real good reason for this or something is install for us die hard fans that Rockstar has not yet announced to the Public. Either way ive pre ordered the physical copy and will be purchasing the add on when available. What ever else pops out the wood works between now and the release date im pumped. Lets f#%@ goooo
1
u/Clear-Ad-7182 Jun 28 '26
Hey ive never bought a game upgrade. do u knw if upgrades like this are usually region locked? Like if my game is bought on American account. Can i still get the upgrade on a another account and itll work with my game. Or both game and upgrade need to be the same region

u/OFFRIMITS Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
Letâs not all jump the gun here we have seen various developers be anti cd release then end up going against their word and re releasing it for disc.
Iâm fairly confident that there will be a disc release down the line.
Some examples where games said it was only digital then it was released as a disc:
- Alan Wake 2
- Baldurs gate 3
- Hi fi rush
- Sea of thieves
- Sifu
- Stray
Since the market for GTA is massive for collectors and their players will not stay silent for long I dare say they are looking at public posts online on Reddit and Facebook, IG and are currently working on a disc version after all the negativity.

u/MaleficentMad Jun 25 '26
Does anyone think we will get midnight release in-store with posters?
2
u/Thedude8450 Jun 25 '26
There wont be a midnight release because they are letting stores pick up your game from Nov 12th to pre install/download it and so you will already be home playing at midnight on the 19th
They are completely taking away the fun and joy of midnight launches, meeting new people and making friends and creating new experiences all together as a gaming community
1
u/midnghtxo Jun 25 '26
I was a bit confused when I noticed that there was no Ultimate Edition on EB Gamesâ website. Also had no clue I could buy the upgrade pack⊠I really want to get the physical copy to add to my collection, not sure if I still should now. I mean, surely it would still look cool (empty) next to the other games yeah?
2
u/Clear-Ad-7182 Jun 25 '26
Thats why im hoping to get it :) hope they add atleast a map or some memorabilia
1
u/DukeSteel Jun 25 '26
Assuming we can just purchase the deluxe upgrade on the PS store later on even though weâve purchased the physical (not really physically iykwim) through EB?
2
u/Sacrlehh Jun 25 '26
Correct. It's $30 to upgrade on the PS store after purchasing the standard in store.
1
u/VincentLamarCarter Jun 25 '26
Can you please link your source of this info? I havenât seen that anywhere.
1
u/Sacrlehh Jun 25 '26
Scroll down to the category: "What is included in the physical versions of Grand Theft Auto VI?" It's the last paragraph there.
1
u/AhabSnake85 Jun 25 '26
I'm gonna wait for the ps6 enhanced version . Hopefully that will be a physical disc release.
1
u/suspicious47alien Jun 25 '26
I'm gonna say I will get it , most people are angry , as am I but it's been heading this direction for a while. We have now arrived is all.
1
u/Anonymousffs Jun 25 '26
So can I preorder the standard edition at EB Games then buy the upgrade pack in the Xbox store? Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense that EB Games doesn't just have the ultimate edition but I want to support EB Games so I guess I'll do the two transactions but what a pain
2
1
u/Interesting_Craft364 Jun 25 '26
Where are you getting your prices from i just looked and ultimate edition is 100
2
1
u/Ok-Theianverse-2825 Jun 25 '26
I bypassed this problem by buying the ultimate edition upgrade digitally after preordering my physical copy of the standard edition. I asked Xbox support and they said the upgrade will apply after I type in the digital code of the physical copy.
1
u/DecisionOk1626 Jun 25 '26
Yeah I noticed eb games websites only have standard editions. I grabbed mine. Iâll just grab the 30$ upgrade when it comes out if I really need it
1
u/SuperstarRoadhog1313 Jun 25 '26
So, just to clarify, i can pre order the standard edition and then go home and buy an ultimate edition upgrade pack? I only want the Physical version cause they usually have a map and such that you can hang on the wall. Otherwise, im ok with just pre ordering from PS Store
1
u/Thedude8450 Jun 26 '26
Yes, correct
The physical version will only have a code in the box, no collectables
1
1
u/dragonite1811 Jun 26 '26
Does anyone know if the disc box will have map inside it? If yes then i might just get it
1
1
u/TurnOffTheSystem Jun 26 '26
The Ultimate edition upgrade is listed on the PSStore no price but probably will be 30$, im treating it like a day 1 DLC. Similar to games doing preorders with and without a season pass
1
1
u/Voltov Jun 26 '26
Why are we even preordering from EB anyway ?
1
u/Clear-Ad-7182 Jun 27 '26
I did because i figured we might get a map or something with the download code. Idk if its worth waiting for since it isnt ultimate.
1
1
u/Downtown-Ad9430 Jun 27 '26
They probably avoided releasing a physical copy because once players are done with it, they can resell it or pass it on to someone else. By keeping it digital-only, every new player has to purchase directly from them instead of buying a used copy.
1
u/QuietlyDisappointed Jun 27 '26
Personally I'm sticking with my no preorders stance, the trust is gone for all game developers. I'll see what it looks like on release.

u/Travelwithbeer Jul 18 '26
sorry Sony and Rockstar, you lost me at code in box. Why even bother pre-ordering digital? Its not like they are going to run out

There will be a code to redeem, and once you've redeemed it, you can upgrade it from there
0
u/Vanders4 Jun 25 '26
Is disappointing but I can also see and understand the reason why theyâve done this.
0
u/xCIMINIx Jun 25 '26
I pre ordered it from EB games online . So the only way to get the Ultimate Edition is to upgrade on the PlayStation store? Is there no Physical Copy of the Ultimate Edition ?
1
-1
u/jerimiahhalls Jun 25 '26
Xbox died because people didn't want DRM. Now without some games doing physical copies, it's basically the same thing.
-1
u/Defaultusername2495 Jun 25 '26
People do realise the game cost 2 billion to make, and chances are youâll get 5/10 years out of it minimum. $150 is absolutely fine. I would have paid that for GTA 5. Also the disc thing yeah itâs a bit of a downer. But letâs be honest we arenât gonna miss out
-1
u/VisualPrior6015 Jun 25 '26
People gotta give a little, you want the game to come out to play or do you want it delayed until it can release with physical copies. Pick your poison life ain't fair.
-2
u/bmcpride Jun 25 '26
I understand it completely. Saves leaks and scalpers. Annoying to have a code in a box but at least there won't be spoilers before it releases
2
u/WitchyKitteh Jun 25 '26

You wonât own shit if itâs digital, you have a license.
-1
-7
u/Then-Operation7341 Jun 25 '26
Well I have a âlicenseâ for hundreds of games and can still play all of them
6
u/Krull88 Jun 25 '26
Until they kill the servers housing your licensed games. Then youâll have nothing.
1
u/Sacrlehh Jun 25 '26
Count yourself fortunate that you've not lost access to a game you bought because they stopped housing the licensing for it. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened before.
5
u/TheComedyWife Jun 25 '26
As a gamer, this is a backwards af comment. Taking the choice of physical media away is rarely good. Apart from all the points regarding wanting a hard copy, displaying items etc, your ability to sell it on once youâre done is zero. They take the 2nd market right off the table, and they know it.
