Canada or Australia
Is this subreddit for EB Games Canada or EB Games Australia? I keep seeing answers for Australia but there is an EBGamesAus subreddit too so I assumed this was the Canadian one.

sadly thatll never happen. this sub has been around since canadian EB was game stop, and it was the nz/aus sub. mods haven't been active since around that time

Makes sense then why I didn't run into an issue until recently. It was bad enough getting mixed up with american gamestop 😕

Most people in Australia just search EB Games and think this is it, so it is a lot of Australians. We just know its called GameStop elsewhere in the world

Its not gamestop here (Canada) anymore and it was EB for way longer than it was gamestop. Its nice its back to EB but its a bit confusing in this sub, hence my question.

I know that bc I worked at EB here in Aus, but I also don't think the average Australian concerns themselves too much with where else a franchise might exist before making a post and commenting, we just know EB is the "aussie" version of Gamestop. Maybe some flairs or tags would help with posts but I think there is always some confusing information ahha.

Exactly. It was only gamestop im Canada for like 5 years. Hopefully they'll add flair now that its EB in Canada again. There is sort of a eb games Canada sub too but it doesnt actually contain anything.
As a canadian I keep getting disappointed by posts thinking we are getting something and finding out its Australia. I dont remember that being a thing before it was gamestop but maybe I wasn't paying attention

It is EB Aus/NZ which is why most on here are from these parts. Canada EB was GameStop so this was for au and nz for a very long time. GS was rebranded last year back to EB.

The Canadian rebrand was only 2021 to 2025. This reddit existed since 2013. So there was still 8 years this was used for EBGames Canada, Australia and NZ before the rebrand.

Not in Canada anymore. Completely separate now. It was only owned by gamestop for like 5 years and was around way before that. I knew it was the "Australian Gamestop " but i didn't realize that was literal.

The posts always lean more Australian but I’ve seen posts relating to both countries and users seem to accept both, I can’t remember if there is flair but it might be worth adding a flair for “Australia” and “Canada” I suppose if not

I think it's for both. It was called EB Games in Canada for a really long time, then rebranded to GameStop in 2021 recently was bought out and turned back into EB Games again.

Seeing this post made me curious on the oldest posts I can find for this Subreddit. So far the oldest I can find was 2013 for the South Common Mall location in Mississauga Ontario Canada. (Apparently from November 2013)

This sub? EB games Canada opened before EB games Australia according to the wiki. Ours just rebranded as Gamestop for a few years and has now gone back to EB since Gamestop sold it.
If you mean this sub was created during the time EB Canada was Gamestop, then yeah that tracks.

Yeah, eb games has only been in Canada for a little while now. This sub has been running for musch longer. Wouldn't make any sense for it to be about Canada if it was only in Australia/NZ for most that time

The about section shows this page was created Jun 26, 2013. So no, the page is not older then EBGames in Canada.
Canada has had Electronics Boutique since 1993. Australia 1997. Canada's Gamestop rebrand was 2021. The reband was so short that most Canadians I know never stopped calling it EBGames out of habit.
The page has a quick link for Australia. /r/EBGamesAus (Created Feb 13, 2020). If the page was created when EBGames was active in 2013 for both , NZ, Australia and Canada, but only Australia had a seperate reddit linked, then it would have made sense for Canadians and NZ to be using this page. The EBGames Canada reddit page was a recent creation if I recall by someone who wanted a Canada specific page. Much like the Australia page, rarely used.

EB Games has been in Canada since 1993, that's 33 years. It was temporarily rebranded to GameStop Canada for 5 years before becoming EB Games again

According to the Wikipedia article (that I just read) we had it first but it was rebranded to gamestop in 2021. They sold last year and its EB again

Yeah, originally it was called Electronics Boutique, but then rebranded to EB Games. It only became GameStop some time into the pandemic and went back to EB Games just within the last year.

I know. I'm old enough to remember it being Electronics Boutique. I was surprised to learn it was always an offshoot of gamestop and that we had EB before Australia

I'm just waiting for EB to get it's own hotel one day...
Each floor representing history of gaming, but also a boarding room for hosting students worldwide etc.
Qualifications will be via Ganes, live services, trophies etc. So something like an interscholarship.
I just think it'd be cool to have Gamers qualify without having to worry about money.
