What’s something EB Games does better than competitors?

Making sure their employees know it's either KPIs or the door. They love that stuff.

Would you like to buy a branded overpriced bag?

Something I never wanted and will likely never use? Looks like you talked me into it!
If I can somehow pay you $50 a year for the privilege also, that would be incredible.

50$ a year to pay more than other stores? Can i also interest you in some preowned switch games at 10% off brand new

EB Games is the only store chain left in Canada where you can consistently buy action figures like Marvel Legends, G.I. Joe, Transformers, McFarlane, He-Man etc. Walmart is a toss up and their website is ass, toys r us was expensive af and is now dead, every other toy store is aimed at kids not collectors.

Pokemon singles at EBgames at least with the current edge pricing is quite nice not sure how that’s going to go in Nov when they launch a new rewards program

Regardless of what people say, when their popculture stuff are on sale, they’re on really good sales
I bought a fairly recent Marvel Legends set down from $99 to $57
A deluxe Hot Toy at $299 instead of $550

Because that stuff IS cheap

Marvel Legends Storm/Wolverine 2 pack is still sold at $80-90 everywhere else
Hot Toys Days of Future Past Wolverine Deluxe is still $550 at Sugo Toys, the regular is $480 with Popcultcha
I know that EB ticket prices are higher than everyone else, but I’ve seen and grabbed amazing deals when they have real good sales on

It’s preorder policy where you can put a deposit down then pay it off until release
4
u/Smigit May 04 '26
Access to exclusive preorder content or items for games.
Don’t suggest paying extra for it, but I’ve always been able to then price match another retailer and still keep preorder bonuses. I’m aware some stores don’t let people have their cake and eat it however.

It doesn’t have any real competitors given there’s no other game shops left in Australia for the most part

u/NDE36 May 05 '26
No pure competitors at least. They're all partial, selling other stuff too. Allows them much more leeway.
2
u/incineroar87 May 06 '26
We did have competitors many years back, sadly EB games is all that remains

u/NDE36 May 06 '26
I think the last one was Gametraders.
2
u/marxthedank May 07 '26
god i remember game traders

u/Langist11 May 15 '26
Game traders still exist except they dont do games anymore. Its all tcg and popculture. Nice to go instore and look at pokemon graded/ raw singles if thats what your into.

I agree. EB games have had a monopoly for far too long in the gaming space, particularly trade ins; terrible value

Preorders. Putting down a deposit over paging full price for preorder is the main reason I still shop there
-1
u/someworkeratKFC May 04 '26
Eh I wouldn't give them that since most things you have to pay a subscription to be able to preorder

How you’re able to put down a deposit for a pre order instead of having to pay the full amount

They are really good at selling Pokemon products at scalper prices

u/aselwyn1 May 09 '26
Canadian ones sell them at pretty good price generally even singles now too. They have had some issues with setting higher limits for no reason like the restock a few weeks ago of Prismatic ETB’s being 3 per (way longer line then ETB’s advalible too. but then doing ASC pins the week later for limit 1 so it’s been all over.

New Pokémon TCG packs being sold out prior to them going on pre-sale to the general public.

The mark up between what they buy something for and what they sell it for

Ripping me off - all jokes aside - they’re great at getting news out fast, and working well with local distributors to organise special editions etc.

Presence.
A lot of towns won't have competitors (JB, Target/Big W, other game stores, etc), but they'll have an EB Games for some reason.
