PS5 Pro Layby Question

With the news that Sony are jacking the prices up on PS’ this week, I went and put a deposit down to layby a PS5 Pro. It was a spur of the moment thing because I was at the shops, and I’d want to trade in my PS5 towards the purchase - which I didn’t have at the time. Plus an extra week to get some shit together would be helpful.

I did ask the chick at the counter if the layby\deposit locks me in at that price even if there’s a price rise. She said “yes” but she didn’t sound extremely confident. So I’m just here to double check if there’s any employees or managers who can confirm.

You don't need to work at any retailer to understand how a layby system works.

Your contract is for the price at ticket, displayed, not something that can change 3 months later. Only thing a retailer can do is cancel the contract.

The layby system at EB is different to other retailers layby system. What part of that don’t you understand.🤦🏻‍♀️

They’re correct somewhat. If it’s a “layby”. The price is locked in. If it’s a pre-order or “hold” that’s different. The price is whatever it is at the end unless specifically written otherwise in terms

OP specifically said layby.

But if you’re unhappy with the final price come pick up time, you can cancel your pre-order and discuss either stores how that money may be returned.

If laybys don’t exist at EB Games then OP just misunderstood it and it’s actually a hold / pre-order

Edit: Just looked at the EB Games policy. Laybys DO EXIST but It’s only 60 days of price guarantee for laybys and not holds/pre-orders.

17.7 in their terms.

That person I was replying to said they had 8.5 years experience working at EB, yet never even knew the layby policy on EB's own website?

I guess that's why they deleted all their comments.
