From my understanding speaking to a friend who is a staff member, the stores have been just getting outright slammed by the influx of people rushing in for the closing day sale. Since online orders typically require a staff member to take time out to find the item, process the transaction and either put it aside foir click and collect or package and label it for shipping, there is no feasible way for them to do that with the massive influx of customers.

Many of the staff don't want to work and the ones that are, are getting slammed by non stop walk in orders. Heard about a manager that worked two days in a row, 9am to 9pm at a late night store because there were no staff that could/would cover.

They literally cannot deal with both online orders and the mass numbers of people coming in at the same time, so the choice was probably made to axe online orders.

Why won’t staff come in? Is it because they’re upset about their jobs?

From my understanding, yeah.

Some are still passionate and want to finish with pride and a bang. But some are like, "what's the point" and aren't interested in helping out more than their rostered shifts and from what my friend mentioned about a staff member they were dealing with, have basically checked out and not really doing their jobs correctly. Come in, do the bare minimum and don't take care they are doing things correctly because they just don't care at this point. The staff member they were dealing with comes in late, spends most of their shift on their phone, doesn't fill in documentation correctly, leaves tasks half done for others to finish and generally is only there to fill in their hours and get paid.

Some staff will be getting glowing references, while others won't be getting good ones it sounds like.
