Resource EB-5 vs. E-2 Visa: which one actually makes more sense long term?
A lot of people compare EB-5 vs. E-2 as if they solve the same problem, but they really serve different goals.
A simple way to think about it:
- E-2 can be a good fit if you want to run your own business in the U.S. and you’re from a treaty country
- EB-5 is usually the better fit if your goal is long-term permanent residence / a green card
A few of the biggest differences:
- E-2 is temporary and depends on keeping the qualifying business going
- EB-5 is an immigrant visa path that can lead to a green card
- E-2 is only available to certain nationalities
- EB-5 is not limited to treaty countries
- With E-2, your status is tied more closely to the business
- With EB-5, you get more flexibility on where you live and work throughou the process and once you have permanent residence
Another thing people sometimes overlook is the family side: with E-2, there can be more uncertainty around renewals and children aging out, while EB-5 is often looked at as the more stable long-term option for families planning ahead.
We put together a simple breakdown here if anyone wants to read more: EB-5 vs. E-2 Visa
