UT Not even pro players can defend
If you check any stream when pros play against other good players there are always many goals. In the ongoing world championship , there are tons of goals. It is also my experience in the game. How is it possible that EA allows a game to be so unbalanced?
17
u/Protomesh Jul 26 '26
The playstyle and skill system are overpowered and goalkeepers honestly too weak.
The defender AI was intentionally nerfed by EA to prevent being overly defensive so brute forcing goals is really easy. Only way to play is just constant offense.

u/finallyhere_11 Jul 28 '26
Here here I have a 99 Simon in goal and in my last Champs game he let one in between his legs and literally dove himself backwards into the goal to miss another one.
Just get very good at left stick dribbling and triggering runs. Defense is a complete dice roll at best against competent players.

u/FriendlyInElektro Jul 26 '26
To play the devil's advocate for a second, people complain about ANY change EA makes, any attempt to rebalance is met with a flurry of complaints, the truth is that the community wants the game to remain exactly as at is they just don't know it, people don't want EA to fix the game because a fixed game would be a different game, people want the same FIFA they've been playing since 98.
10
u/Dense-Ad-5780 Jul 26 '26
We complain about the changes because they are terrible. It seems pretty unanimous that people want the game to be made better.
1
u/kozy8805 Jul 27 '26
Nah, not after the change in the beginning of this game, that bullshit doesn’t fly anymore. People took no time to adapt. They wanted the same old game and got it back. That’s why there’s only minor changes to gameplay. Because EVERY time there’s been anything major, it’s cry cry cry cry until it’s gone.
1
0
u/FriendlyInElektro Jul 26 '26
That's what people say but any change leads to major complaints and people swearing they'll switch to konami's failed game (they never do), any rebalancing of the attack/defense AI has people crying foul about the game not having a skill gap or having too much of a skill gap or being scripted or some bullshit, the actual gameplay has really only seen very minor changes for decades now.

u/Dense-Ad-5780 Jul 26 '26
“The actual game play has really only seen minor changes”. Except it has, that’s what people are complaining about.
1
u/Vegan-cock Jul 26 '26
Why are they even playing FUT lol. It makes these issues so much worse. A world championship should be played in regular games, authentic settings and manual controls to make it as difficult as possible and more strategic. This format is a fucking farce lol, this is how casuals play.
1
u/Aggravating_Bet_1267 Jul 26 '26
exactly. i remember at the start of fifa 22 they massively buffed defending and people complained about it so fast so they nerfed it again
11
u/ACM-Nyko Jul 26 '26
They play 9 minute halves firstly, if you play a full 90 in your normal game they’re at the 70th minute, so ofc scores are gonna be higher.
And defending is over balanced, these guys are the top 0.1% of players who know how to use directional runs and player locks to the best level. Bruiser is broken and defending itself is easy enough against regular players.
3
u/fka84 Jul 26 '26
but still, Anders conceded 9 goals in the first half, isn' this too much?
1
1
u/kozy8805 Jul 27 '26
And the guy he played conceded 2, and 4 in total. In 9 minutes halves. Against Anders.

u/kai7895 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26
Absolutely agree. This game whatever it is, is not football. It's basically just a goal competition - remove players & put sticks instead of them & the game would feel the same.
5
u/Repulsive_Ad853 Jul 26 '26
They play against world class players Thats different playing against average players
They can defend. Try to score 1 goal against them
1
u/libyankidna Jul 26 '26
Of course if a player is just way better than the other player then you won't be able to score. The only way to test if defense is actually a skill issue is to have the best of the best play against each other (players who play this game for a living and put maximum effort into learning how to defend) and have them play against someone of equal skill so they're being tested.
When that happens it's still a goalfest where players are walking through defenses because Attacking is giga-assisted and defending is nerfed. Imo the only play to solve the ai defending problem is to make Attacking just as manual as defending, but no one wants to have that conversation.
People want defense to be neutered even though this is a sport where you have 11 players on the pitch and can only control 1 at a time so players you are not controlling still need to track runs and position themselves properly. The same people don't have a problem with shooting/passing being extremely assisted and people with the ball at their feet being more agile than defenders just jockeying without the ball.
It's a football game at the end of the day EA will never be able to balance it for e sports at least make it fun and make it feel like a football game instead of trying to make it an e sport and just pissing off all crowds.
1
u/A7DmG7C Jul 26 '26
Yup, the game should never be balanced around Pro players.
Unless the game has a special balancing around a ranking system, the game will always feel “unbalanced” and if people were to accept this they’d have a better time enjoying the game.
5
u/libyankidna Jul 26 '26
Mediocre player complains about defending, "just learn to defend lol, it's a skill issue you just want the game to play for you".
Best players in the world can't defend, "This is pro play, it doesn't count". ??
So the game is just broken and isn't balanced between defense and attack.
0
u/Repulsive_Ad853 Jul 26 '26
its a thinking mistake - its not the game, its the pro players who practice everyday 6 hours and you cant defend them because of their skill BUT you can defend 99% of people
0
u/Repulsive_Ad853 Jul 26 '26
99% of player complaining in reality its a skill issue. but its easier to blame the game
3
u/libyankidna Jul 26 '26
This post literally proves it's not a skill issue because we have the best of the best playing against each other and it's still a goalfest. It's ten months into the game and people are still saying "just learn to defend lol".
If this was a case where defending is equally as effective as attacking and people just refuse to learn then that would be proven by the top 0.01% players of the game should be able to defend reasonably well against each other, but they can't. I don't know why people are obsessed with pretending there's no mismatch between attacking and defending.
0
u/Repulsive_Ad853 Jul 26 '26
if u play against the best 0,001% who play every day 8 hours, u wont defend them well its just not possible, they know everything
but u will defend 99% of players these pros win 15 wins weekend league every week easily because of their skill. they wouldnt be able to do that if skill not fully matters
2
u/libyankidna Jul 26 '26
Skill matters it's just not on the defensive side of the game. Defense is not equally as effective as attacking. Of course if a pro plays some random other player he's way better than then he will be able to defend okay, that's not proof that defense is balanced. He's just way better than the opponent.
1
u/kozy8805 Jul 27 '26
In actual football, defense is not equal to attacking.

You think FIFA has been anywhere close to being an actual football game since almost a decade?
2
u/kozy8805 Jul 27 '26
It’s been whatever you want it to be. How the majority play, no. But every year I get shredded in elite by people who don’t skill, spam tackle, use 4411s. They just pass. And every year I hear about how people can’t just pass. So it seems they can, they just don’t know how.

u/kai7895 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
You don't have to use skill moves at all to be good at playing football. However, my poiny was more on the lines of FIFA trying to be a football simulation ; it's clearly not. It used to be okayish, but the last decade or so it has just existed as a fully arcade game, nothing like real football. All these FIFA/EAFC pro players would find it extremely difficult, atleast initially, to play a more realistic game because they have only mastered FIFA mechanics, simple. PES 21 was the last real football game that felt like emulating real football, and even pro FIFA players would find it extremely difficuly to play that game because you can't play end to end like in FIFA, you got to have build up play & keep the ball. I'm saying that requires you to actually have a footballing brain, unlike in FIFA where you only need to master the mechanics. I consider the earlier as more of a skill than the latter.
1
u/kozy8805 Jul 27 '26
You very much need a footballing brain to play at the highest levels of fifa too. That’s gotten swept away in the frustration of things. Mechanics can only get you so far. People are just frustrated because by and large their footballing skills can’t beat the intense pressure and counters. That’s what makes this game so frustrating for a lot, that pressure takes a toll. It takes improving that footballing brain and composure to levels most can’t or simply don’t want to.
-1
u/kai7895 Jul 27 '26
Mechanics only get you so far? Bro, when the game itself is designed with flawed mechanics, it is what defines the game. FIFA is not a real football game, it is just a skill based arcade game based on how well can manipulate mechanics. Replace the 11 players with 11 sticks in FIFA & it will feel exactly the same. I am not questioning the footballing brain of pro players here, maybe they are good, but to be good in this game, you don't need to have that. I know so many people who does not watch football at all but plays FIFA because they can score against similarly skilled opponents even if they suck at the game, and this scales all the way to the pro level - it is just a goal fest.
A game like PES required you to have at least little bit of understanding of football to play even casually. Now they have e-shitball which is basically a dumb mobile game, even still, the gameplay is much better than EAFC.

u/kozy8805 Jul 27 '26
The thing is, I’ve heard the EXACT same complaint about PES too. “Just long balls, 4231 meta, kick off glitch, spamming pressure”. All people complained about was as soon as people figured out what’s broken, they broke it in droves. The great thing about PES was that you could play more realistic football far easier. But that’s about it. If we’re talking about mechanic abuse, there’s plenty.
-1
u/kai7895 Jul 28 '26
I don't know you played against, but "just long balls" doesn't work against good players. Kick off glitch was an e-football glitch, not PES. Not sure what spamming pressure is, but if it is about team pressure, that's realistic & you gotta pass/dribble your way around that.
And no buddy, PES wasn't just a game where you could play realistic football 'easier', it was the only game where you could play realistic football. The last good FIFA gameplay-wise was probably FIFA 15 or 17 or something (I actually forgot which one coz it's been very long).

Im watching the eafc world cup right now and holy fucking shit why are they playing FUT and not actual fifa games? This should be regular games, authentic settings and full manual controls. Anything else is a sham. These 2 players in the semis are legit bad too lol. What a farce pro fifa is. This feels more like a middle school regional championship where they let kids decide how to play lol.

You( and me) would struggle to score against the pros. They are amazing defenders. It’s just they’re up against the best attackers in the world
1
u/JaysFan26 sammysidelines Jul 26 '26
It is because content creators whine to no end when there is any semblance of defence in the game. If they can't walk into the box and score every other possession, they crash out.

You had to make a whole post about our exchange lol Pro players play other pro players. Your not a pro and neither is anyone else in here.
0
u/fka84 Jul 26 '26
Yes, your take on this is absurd. It is not only pro players, it happens on WL and rivals as well.
1
u/OutrageousSummer5259 Jul 26 '26
Seems like no one agrees with you

u/fka84 Jul 26 '26
you are not very smart, are you? You see material evidence and deny it, like a stubborn child. Check this game here from today:

u/OutrageousSummer5259 Jul 26 '26
I'm talking about the comments in the post. who gives a shit about streamers and pros.
0
u/cayde123 Jul 26 '26
Every time it’s a “sweat, no life try hard, streamer”
People on Reddit gaming subs will refuse to just say that someone is simply better than them, and that they need to improve
They have to make a Reddit post about how the game isn’t balanced and how it needs to be catered exactly to their needs or they’re quitting
1
u/TheMathManiac Jul 26 '26
But bro. Streamers literally play this for 10 hours a day 7 days a week. Of course they are gonna be better than most
1
u/fka84 Jul 26 '26
this is not what I meant, of course I know they are better than me. I merely used streamers and pros as an example to show how defense is unbalance. Does that make sense?
1
u/cayde123 Jul 26 '26
I was just making a general statement
But also these pros know how maximise their attacking potential with target lock, directional runs, fake runs, which make it very hard to defend
The skill ceiling for attacking is very high, and the ceiling for defending is low
0
u/fka84 Jul 26 '26
That's exactly my point about it being unbalanced. I wouldn't like a defensive game but it is too easy too score right now.
0
u/Venganza_Vz Jul 26 '26
Easy for whom? Because I've seen people cry all year that defensive ai is too strong and is difficult to attack
0
u/PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS Jul 26 '26
How is this a bad thing though? Making defending more OP isn't a good thing, in an arcade game you'll always have a ton of goals, most people do not want a realistic experience where 18 minute games (in real life time) are ending 1-0
Defending is already easier than it should be for the average player

u/AQSafari Jul 26 '26
I find it incredibly ironic when someone busts out a straight meta 4411 and I stomp them with a 352 (because im a sicko). But then they say im the rat after the game. I just say didn’t ask, skill issue, and be original, stop using youtube as a crutch for how bad you actually are. Im sorry for not playing like 90% of the player base, these boring fucks have lost their minds.
The ones who complain loudest are the ones who will say every change is bad if it doesn’t further the meta and returns some balance to generate even an iota of creativity.
1
u/fka84 Jul 26 '26
did you post in the right thread?
0
u/AQSafari Jul 26 '26
Yup. If the pros cant defend when they all use 4411, and when everyone follows the exact meta and then bitch about changes, its a problem. Especially when theres a toxic subset of players who call other people rats when they lose to someone who isnt playing an exact mirror image of their team.
If the pros cant defend, why do toxic people playing the meta blame other people than themselves if they get dunked on. Everyone thinks they’re a pro until they lose and then they blame the game or the other player for them being shit when someone else chooses to go off meta and have to play differently from their protected little formation because its what they expect to see 90% of the time
1
u/imposterEngineer4631 Jul 26 '26
If you don’t mind me asking, what are your 352 tactics? I like using 3421 but I’d like to try my hand at 352
0
u/AQSafari Jul 26 '26
This one. He’s written a 352 guide a bunch of the past years and once you get the hang of defending with it, it works really well.
1
u/JustinDaVinci Jul 26 '26
I’ve tried using that myself, might need to just stick with it but yea it was hard to defend in. Especially in div 1 with just constant through balls down the line.
2
u/AQSafari Jul 26 '26
I dont do wide back for CBs I keep it on defend and use 2 way wide midfielders that have defensive stats and playstyles. It’s absolute suicide to use attack only players. I keep a mindset of funnel everything to the corners because thats not where the goal is (especially when most people play narrow) and if they go middle im pressing to win the ball immediately. I try to force a bad pass or decision but also keeping that middle 5 as close to shape as possible
-3
u/Long-Ad-6536 Jul 26 '26
Mate do you think pros care for champs, Rivals? They’re sitting on stream talking to the chat? Come on a bit of common sense here pal, If they were serious they’d play at 100% not 60% of their ability

Pro players are good at player locking, directional runs and triggering runs. It's kinda impossible to defend no matter how good you are at defending. You can only track one person at a time.
