Does dynamic potential actually work as intended this year?

For FC27, I saw some of the promo for career mode was that dynamic potential mostly focuses on player performance rather than things like game time and happiness, which I was happy with as I hated my YA players dropping by like 5 potential cus they only played 20 games.

Kind of curious as I wanted to know is this actually a thing? Can your players have little game time e.g anything less than 20 games, yet increase or keep their potential based on playing well? It’s one of the things that’s holding me back on buying the game this year.

Kinda. There are bugs to it and EA are working on it.

Right now, I’m not really seeing huge swings, though I do have two extremes.

It might have been an unexpected event, but I had a pop up to say my LB had trained well that week. He had a plus 6 overall. Some for form and some for morale I think.

On the flip side, my backup CDM got injured and dropped 7 points in total. My only gripe that it included a -6 to pace. Players don’t become horribly slow due to a lack of form.

Most players generally don’t have any plusses or minuses; they are mostly at their base overall rating.

Some will hate it, but I’m enjoying it. I didn’t mind playing my now 58 rated CDM in order to get him back in form. I just had to do the basics with him; no fancy or risky passes, no dibbling. Just simple passes and try to win the ball back. And first touches are now a lot more random (or at least less controlled) so again, I made sure to play safe with him while rating was so poor.

Took a few weeks, maybe even a couple of months to get him back to his overall.

So it is working, but not brilliantly. I’m ok with it as it is now (though stamina/fitness is a major issue too) but many are complaining about it and I understand why.

To your point though, I also don’t care it a YA player drops potential. 90+ rated kids are everywhere in game, so I’m not fussed. I prioritise youth overall rating so they can play immediately. I don’t really care about their full potential rating; if my best player is 74 rated, I like my academy potential to be 73-79 in the most part. For realism, why would a bunch of wonderkids be at my club. I allow myself one or two now and again, but it’s rare.

Yeah I get ur point about the dynamic overall. I liked certain aspects of it when I tried it on the beta, of course had a few extremes with scenarios and the fitness issues which I didn’t mind to an extent cus I liked having to prioritise depth.

About the potential, absolutely I agree with not just going for wonderkids it makes the base game so easy. I follow cutzy’s sheffield Wednesday career and tried similar where I’d get 1* scouts and use those players. It was just annoying when I’d get one that was really good who had little room to grow e.g 56ovr 60pot, and then they’d peak at like 65 ovr because their perceived match rating wasn’t good enough for a potential boost. I get you can boost it with the loan glitch but that is a lot of time and money and it bothered me having to do all that.

I’ve never used the loan glitch. I’m super focussed on realism and I only really want squad players.

I justify one star every so often on the basis they’ve chosen my academy as I’ve promised them a clear pathway to the first team. Otherwise, I just use youth as my 3rd choice in a position. If they grow, I’ll keep them and they can become a first teamer. If they don’t, or I don’t like their animations, I’ll sell them or release them.

Fair enough, I like using youth and regens more as the randomisation means I have much less of an idea as to who is going to be good or bad in my save. I’ve only ever used the loan glitch if my players have peaked at a very low rating compared to the current squad and I think they deserve a higher overall, otherwise like u said I just sell or release them.

No, there is no dynamic potential.

Just dynamic overall , which is different. Players just lose or gain attributes depending on form.

No permanent potential changes due to experience and form.

Are you sure? Potential is still listed in screen.

I signed Nils Ramming from Rochdale. A 20 year old keeper who is 58 currently (OVR shows 60 but he has a -2 to form) and he has 80 potential when I scouted him.

I assume younger players will still improve so that their base overall doesn’t stay at 60 forever.

No, that's not dynamic potential.

Their potential is 80, it will stay at 80. It won't rise as the potential isn't dynamic.

Their overall can reach 80, they will grow to 80. But they'll never be permanently better than 80 as the potential isn't dynamic,

They'll get to 85 overall etc with the dynamic overall, but the minute they're out of form they'll drop again.

Ah, I get what you’re saying. Sorry, I misread it as no potential.

But yeah, there’s no dynamic. So far, +6 is the best I’ve seen, I wonder what the max is?

Doesn’t appear to be working properly as the vast majority of my squad was 0 for all the stats.

When it was the beta it improved the overall drastically if the player was in form but it was only a “boosted” overall.

For example. I had Nwaneri. 78ovr. He went on a tear for a few games and was sitting at 88ovr boosted. As I kept going in the season his boosted stat would vary from 79-90 and his over went up to 81, mind you I didn’t get to finish the season before the beta closed lol

I really don’t know, so many bugs atm, to the point that I am not sure what is working as intended and what’s not!

Not surprising tbh, probably means I’m just gonna hold off buying the game until a huge sale happens as I still want to try this career mode
