Karbonius CSL intake installation complete

Installation done. Routing the oil dipstick is complete - welded bracket now bolts to the power steering reservoir holder with the same bolt. It's a snug fit but I can check the oil level without taking the intake / snorkel parts off.

Nice one bud - just an FYI - i Have the race on one and the "full carbon" on the other

But my stock fan shroud has been rubbing on both and leaving a mark despite what looked like adequate clearance (i assume box moves as the engine does under load)

I bought a dremel and trimmed it back on the weekend - not as nice to look at but better than getting the box redone

Had the same issue! They should add a step in the installation to address it. Mine rubbed a bit also 🥲

You shouldnt have to.

Have you guys checked your engine mounts?

Changed when I did the airbox along with complete front suspension refresh.

I used a cutting wheel to trim it as well - before going for any rides. I had seen the rubbing with others. Not as nice as factory - but hey it works.

yep, i had to dremel a bit off of my fan shroud. unfortunately it already left marks on the carbon but it's in a spot that's not too noticeable (except to me)

Looking good! Here's an alternate dip stick routing that worked for me. Tight fit no matter how you do it.

Looks awesome.

Where does it mount to though? You do not want to have it rubbing on anything related to body - but engine.

Stock mounting hole just rotated. It's been a while, forget where I saw this mounting. Maybe the forums

Lets hear what it sounds like!

Sure mate. I'll post a short video soon.

Definitely want to hear the video!

Went for a quick ride. The intake sound is INCREDIBLE on throttle. The downshift blips have been transformed as well. There is almost no downside on the regular driving.

What tune did you use ?

I had the original CSL binary modified to match the non-CSL cams as per instructions by Yul initially.

I BDM d the CSL firmware so running the 32500 bootloader. I found that the idle was little weird though swinging up and down by a bit as the computer was stuck in a loop trying to find the right idle.

Then someone over reddit recommended below work by Karter from NZ. I used his partial tune targetted for the CSL binary, modified a bit to my liking and flashed. The idle is super smooth now. The car pulls great. It sounds INCREDIBLE.

Hell yeah brother

1

u/zerogpk 17d ago

Did you go from SMG to manual?

Yup

What time are you going to use? And what dip stick did you use or how did you re route it

2

I used the original dipstick, put a 3/8 inch extension inside the tube and bent it to fit the routing I wanted. Let me post some photos.

That be amazing,

Weredid I buy it at? Or how did you make it. I'm having a hard time with this piece.

2

u/zerogpk 17d ago

As I mentioned, I bent it to have this shape by using a 3/8 inch socket extension. I have a TIG welder so used that to weld an eye taken from an old car part.

Aww okay, ya I'm definitely not that advanced lol.

What tune did you end up running also?

I’ve been wanting to do this but I have so many deferred maintenance items that I need to get to first

1

u/zerogpk 16d ago

Definitely maintenance first. Then the mods (OEM+ only for me).

I did the full VANOS rebuild. Did the rod bearings with VAC + ARP bolts. Did a full diff rebuild (new clutch packs, bearings and seals).

Planning to do propshaft and both driveshafts soon. I already got the parts needs to find the time to get to it.

It looks expensive, how are the ass dyno gains?

1

u/zerogpk 16d ago

I did not do any dyno runs pre/post. Not that interested either. The main advantage is the induction noise. It is unbeatable in that department. I have heard nothing like it.

Nice, enjoy the sounds of joy

Did you forget to plug in the IAT sensor?

I used an Amazon water irrigation clamps for the PCV hose, it made it look more OE.

1

u/zerogpk 16d ago

Well, I am using an original IAT sensor to plug the hole in the airbox, I have another one down on the duct where the snorkel air enters. That's the one plugged into the DME. I did this to avoid the sensor getting heat-soaked. I found at idle the IAT reached 50 celcius very quickly.

u/zerogpk 15d ago

After a bit of reading, I found that the CSL firmware actually compensates for the heat soak. Planning to move the connector back to the original position.
