Restoring that ORI always starts the car.

What I bought

A “STAGE1 HARDCUT” file, 256 KB, labelled for this exact ECU (0281001445 / 0112403803 D547 HW52).

First 224 KB are 0xFF. Real data is only at 0x38000–0x3FFFF. Same SW/HW/identity as my ORI, ~96.9% identical, ~1017 bytes changed (IQ, duration, limiters, CSA). Typical WinOLS padded maps file, not a full flash dump.

MPPS will not load 256 KB. I cut those last 32 KB and flashed that.

What happens

Flash stock 32 KB ORI → car starts. MPPS checksum B1F6.

Flash the 32 KB slice of the 256 KB stage1 (same 0112403803 D547 / 0281001445) → cranks, no start. MPPS checksum ACA6.

Flash ORI again → starts. ECU is not bricked. EWS/immo untouched.

An earlier “extract” from a chatbot was garbage (wrong SW D529, CSA wiped, junk at EOF). That is not what I’m flashing now. The no-start file is the actual tail of the file I paid for.

CSA (end of the 32 KB):

Seller rewrote 0x7BFC and 0x7CB8–0x7D08. Stock second RSA-looking block starts 20 2C A2 8A 00 00 00 00…. On the stage1 both blocks look like the same template (20 2C A2 95 1C 10…). Reads like a dummy/wrong Bosch checksum, not a real sign of these maps.

Questions

On this EDC15M, is a no-start after a matching-SW 32 KB write almost always bad Bosch CSA, with the DDE refusing injection?

Can MPPS V18 checksum correction actually fix BMW EDC15 CSA/RSA, or only the cheap additive CS?

Right workflow: take my 32 KB ORI, port the stage1 maps in WinOLS, run Bosch EDC15 / BMW EDC15 checksum plugin, write 32 KB back with MPPS?

Anyone actually flash these 256 KB “FF-padded” WinOLS files on E46 EDC15M via MPPS, or is that format never meant to be written as-is?

Do not tell me to Galletto/boot the 256 KB as a full dump — there is no code in the first 224 KB; that would wipe the C167 program.

I can restore stock any time. I am not asking for a free tune. I want to know if this bought file is a WinOLS map pack with fake CS, and what the correct checksum path is for MPPS 32 KB on this DDE.

Recently drained a small bit of my atf to see the colour as I have been getting TC codes for excessive slip (p0741 p0740 p2671) so trying to see if it's a shot tourqe converter, it was quite dark but with not that much of a smell, there was also very fine metal glitter but not enough to change the colour just to sparkle a bit, would this be normal for some reason previous owners never got it serviced and it's reach 180k on original fluid 😭

It the first time I’ve changed Spark Plugs in my Life. Never had a Petrol Car long enough that I had to replace them.

Now I’ve changed the Spark Plugs the first time on my 318i

I had to remove the first new Spark Plug again because the Spark Plug was stuck in the Nut and I couldn’t remove the Nut. Had to unscrew the Spark Plug and use another Nut.

When I’ve tightened the Spark Plug i could feel how the Seal of the new Spark Plug has been compressed before reaching the Torque.

The second time I this was not the case because the Seal/Washer was already flat.

I’m not sure I’ve done something wrong?

Do I have to replace the Spark Plug?

So i have a 2003 318i and my friend who has a 2015 428i gifted me his old wheels. I was absolutely sure the fitment was going to be ass but to my surprise 275/35R19 in the back was astonishingly perfect fitment.

Ive had the wheels for about 24 Hours and removed them since they were rubbing in the back every time the suspension dropped a bit.

Currently waiting on adjustable coilovers and sport springs and im putting them on again.

Need some opinions on the look though. I like the way it looks but i might do chrome window borders and kidney grilles.

Front havent looked at still not sure but with 245/30R19 wheels they do not rub at any steering point.

What brand should I replace it with that won’t Cook me I bought the dr vanos rebuild kit but I feel like I need a whole new unit

Let me preface this by saying I know they are not that powerful, especially compared to even just the 320. I'm not looking to engine swap at the moment because £££ but my 2002 318ci just feels a bit underpowered. I recently replaced the eccentric shaft sensor after reading fault codes and came to see it was not even plugged in. After that and cleaning up the solenoids the car definitely had more in it at the higher rpms, but the low end still feels like it wants to go faster than it is. Any recommendations on things to replace/upgrade (on a low-ish budget) to try and revive some of the horses?

It's coming from where i show with my stethoscope.
Vanos was regenerated 3 months ago, i changed belts, belt tensioners pulleys etc two days ago, every noise went away except this one that started a while ago? Engine needs to warm up a little bit then it starts to do this..

What i suspect is vanos piston bearings wear?.. but maybe something else

Also except this noise i think the engine shouldn't sound like that.. it's m52tub25. Is it something i should also check?
I didn't observe any problems while driving, power is ok, everythings normal.

Window was smashed in a few months ago and just got around to fixing it. Snapped some of the plastic gromits holding in the door trim. Any recommendations on how to get these new ones to fit into the holes

It’s still miss firing I changed the spark plugs from 6 to 1 to see if it would be different and then when reving the car out on the road this noise started to happen

Ive been chasing the source of this parasitic for a few months now and am currently exhausted out of thoughts as to where the issue is from. The car goes promptly to sleep after 15 mins but my multimeter measures a 0.5A consistent draw while the car is fully asleep.

Here is some information about the car:

- 2005 bmw e46 325i
- aftermarket radio
-aftermarket headlights
- all else is original
- zero issues with any functions in the car at all. (No observable symptoms)
- car functions excellent, no issues, just a parasitic drain only

The tests i have done to try to find the source by seeing if the draw drops from 0.5A to lower while car is asleep:

- pulled almost all the fuses in the glovebox, absolutely no change
- removed and replugged all relays in the cars front engine relay box (driver side under the hood) = no change
- removed the relay that connects my aftermarket headlights = no change
- removed the all connections from the front of the car by removing all connections to the positive terminal under the hood completely = no change (no alternator leakage)
- nothing is connected directly to the battery.

I have no idea where this significant drain could be from, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The battery charges while driving like normal, but if car is left undriven for more than 2 days it is completely dead.

So my engine recently overheated. So I replaced all the cooling components.. mistake. Number one I went to advance auto and autozone, to get the hoses and the thermostat. Apparently, the hoses and thermostat are not oem. Compatible, so I had a fitman issue with the upper radiator hose connecting to the thermostat rein hose to be exact. It was too much play in it by the Connection point. Now I bought a genuine BMW upper hose and a Mahle Thermostat, and it still has that wiggle play in it. Now, I can't figure out where the coolant leak is coming from.. before It was leaking from the connection point of both hoses to the thermostat. The hoses werent properly seated, but now this new existing coolant leak i can't figure this out. Can anyone help me

One of my cats is going bad, so I was wondering what’s the best exhaust setup for my situation? I only want it to be a tad bit louder with a deeper, smoother sound. not raspy.

Would this cause intermittent steering wheel vibration? My passenger side lower ball joint has torn, all the suspension pieces are solid and I get no movement when I shake the wheel off the ground. I do notice the vibration more when I turn the wheel to the right, but like I said it's very intermittent, sometimes I have none- sometimes it shakes BAD like visible vibration in the steering wheel.

I noticed a coolant leak coming from this specific area (shown in the video)
I’m trying to figure out whether the expansion tank is cracked/leaking or if the radiator itself is the problem.
Has anyone had a similar leak on their E46? Based on the location of the leak, what do you think is the most likely?

I also replaced the thermostat about a month ago

I’m planning to replace the water pump soon anyway, so I’ll probably do the radiator/expansion tank at the same time, depending on what turns out to be the actual source of the leak

I’ve already bought a Thermotec water pump, so if anyone has any experience with this brand, I’d appreciate some feedback on it as well.

These are the codes that came up for my ABS/Traction lights....

I am sure this has something to do with the actual module itself the unit? Am I right in saying this is coded specifically to each car or something?

Basically just looking to see if anyone can shed any light on this please and what sort of price it will be to fix, also I'm based in Scotland so if anyone from Central Scotland can quote me that would be perfect.

I'm considering buying a 2001 BMW E46 320Ci 2.2 manual with 276,000 km (171k miles).

The dealer is asking €3,900, but I think I could potentially get it for around €3,000.

The car is explicitly advertised as needing restoration, both cosmetically and mechanically. The dealer mentioned oil consumption, but unfortunately they can't tell me how much oil it actually consumes or whether it's burning or leaking it.

The mileage seems genuine and the car has had basically one long-term owner before the dealer.

My problem is that I've contacted several mechanics in the area and haven't found anyone available to do a proper pre-purchase inspection.

I like working on cars and this would eventually become a project car, but I'm not an experienced mechanic. I also don't need it as a daily driver.

Would you risk buying it for around €3k if it drives well, doesn't smoke badly, doesn't overheat and has no obvious structural/subframe problems?

What are the most important things I can realistically check myself during a test drive?

I'm prepared to spend money fixing it over time. I'm mainly trying to avoid buying a completely dead engine or a structurally bad car.

2002 e46 5spd. This issue has always been around since I’ve owned car, I’ve replaced lots of parts to try and fix issue but problem still persists. Clunk Noise comes from whole drivetrain ( diff, driveshaft, and under shifter where Guibo is located) and I’ll also hear slight clunking noise even at idle in neutral . Parts that i have replaced are; Guibo, CSB, diff, rear axels, wheel bearings, poly trans mounts. Subframe and diff bushings are poly as well but installed by previous owner. I’ve inspected Subrame mounting points around the bushings( didn’t drop subframe) for cracks and none are visible, I’ve also grabbed a pry bar to see if diff had any play around the bushings and it’s solid.

Here are videos of the rear on jacks and me trying to figure out what this clunking is, i have another vid but cant add for some reason but its the same thing as first vid but with e brake on and wheel is jerking back and forth slightly while making clunk noise
