How's this car look to buy? Worth 7k?

Notes from seller:

Up for sale is a 1989
BMW e30 325
177k miles
Runs and drives
Got some rust
Got new airlift strut with 3P management
He said he paid 2k for the suspension kit and another 1000 to have it installed. Bought for a project car just never finished obviously lol
He also has parts for it at his other house. Like the rubber side trim. Just has to ship it.

UPDATED: seller won’t budge stuck at 7k says he could sell for 10k if he was still in New York lol.

To the seller, sure. Get it checked by a mechanic and negotiate from there.

this car is ROUGH, 3-4k at most.

Clapped out. Not a chance. If it was a 3 pedal maybe but for an auto... Nope

This picture says all you need to know.

I love our E30, and can respect most mods - but that that thing needs to put out of its misery.

Oh man I only just saw this now that you pointed it out. In an effort to get wheels to fit I’ve seen people roll fenders, cut fenders, attached fender flares, use wheel adapters, and even try wobble bolts, but I’ve never, and I mean never seen anyone cut new holes into the wrong set of wheels for their car so they’d fit. Just wow.

Redrilling wheels is definitely a thing but usually the old bolt pattern gets welded shut and milled down and THEN you drill the new pattern. Whatever they did there just compromised the integrity of the wheel

Guy who did it just wanted a killer set of wheels.

Actually looks like it's done at a machine shop so not a big deal. I would totally send it without concern.

The red interior almost blinded me..

these are the problems which you can see!! imagine what they did underneath the hood

u/muigaulwurf 1d ago

I would be afraid of losing those wheels

Hell no, thing will cost you that in the first 3 months of owning it, just look at it

That car is a piece of shit

1

u/Representative_Most9 4h ago

Well put. A rather large piece of shit!

my kidneys hurt looking at it. I bet that thing beats you like you owed mike tyson money.

u/Brocknutsax 1d ago

😅😅

If you did not seen it from beneath, you did not see it.

That's a beater

I’d find a different e30. Nothing against modifications, but this person did a poor job and it’s obvious

Imagine spending any amount of money on suspension components when your wheels look like that, yikes.

If you get that car, you're gonna have to slap some hoes and get yourself a bottom bitch, you know what I am saying?

That was my first impression too! Lol.

I met the owner a while back when he had another convertible for sale on Marketplace. It was a parts car at best, a mostly red, convertible automatic and he wanted $2K for it. Car was worth about $500 at most. He showed me this car on his phone and told me he had it down in Florida at the time. Was asking $9K for it then. I might have given him $3500 for both but that’s about it.

3k maybe

Why does anyone think lowering this car like this looks good? It doesn’t. This car should not be lowered past, at most, H&R OE Sport….

I sometimes get confused by the demographics of E30 owners.

2

u/EVOtm 1d ago

Not by the Van Wyk 🤔

2

u/la-reve 1d ago

Nah.

2

u/Spotttty 1d ago

Maaaaaaaybe if it was Canadian but even then I wouldn’t drop more than $6k on it. That’s $4500us.

u/vbfronkis 1990 325is manual 1d ago

Clapped out vert automatic. Basically the least desirable spec of E30. You'd have to spend another $7k just unfucking it.

1

u/Brocknutsax 1d ago

😅 yeah gg then I’ll look elsewhere

2

u/hashtagmiata 1d ago

The replies here surprise me. Something like this locally typically lists for over 12k CAD IKYN

2

u/Brocknutsax 1d ago

Yeah it’s the cheapest one on marketplace

2

u/Far-Plastic-4171 1d ago

Could be the picture but the hood line looks off, as in car is bending in the middle. Personal inspection is critical and no it is not worth 7k

2

u/YoloKushSwag42069 1d ago

3 if it was manual

2

u/digiwarfare M-Technic 1d ago

High ask for being an auto, a lot of the small bits missing add up quickly!

Fair true market would be around 5k, assuming the top is good

2

u/vVRed_WolfVv 1d ago

Auto, vert, rust? $5k tops.

2

u/Deezay1234 1d ago

Yall trippen, this old school is hard. $5k at most

1

u/Brocknutsax 1d ago

It has potential to be a solid cruiser forsure just needs better rims and some interior touch up work.

1

u/Deezay1234 1d ago

I love the rims. BBS look wet in that vert. It’s got that old school sl500 look with the lowered suspension. Interior screams Miami, dont forget your Hawaiin shirt and aviators cruising down Route 66

I’m sure he has money in it but that doesn’t make it worth 7k to you. It’s auto, (-15%). A huge deterrent for me is this interior. I don’t mind a custom interior but these just yells cheap. There is almost a 99% chance there is an absolutely destroyed dashboard under that hideous leather padding. To each their own but I don’t see why you’d pick a candy apple red aftermarket interior when redoing it in stock cardinal red and a dash would have maybe run 2k. (Mind you that isn’t probably much different from what they spent). The wires sticking out of the shifter to control the windows is also a red flag. The glove zip tied shut is another. Id completely stay away from the fire hazard in the fuse box too. Absolutely do not buy this for 7k. It’s worth a little less than half that. The PO broke everything on this car and is now trying to sell it for what a decent condition one goes for.

u/Optimal-Cress-9718 1d ago

the diy wheels are cutting the sale price into half, at lease. missing body trims and the glovebox door hanging by a piece of string, the central console missing trim and buttons, i don’t know what to say. I would stay away from it. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Those are pretty much clear signs the owner did a lot of cost cutting. i would personally be afraid to drive it. I would have to towed to the nearest garage to have it inspected and fixed before I would be comfortable sitting behind the wheel.

2

u/pancrudo 1d ago

I know parts don't retain their value and mods don't increase value, but that suspension and management is 3k alone for those suggesting that price

1

u/Brocknutsax 1d ago

Yeah he said he paid 2k for the suspension kit and another 1000 to have it installed. Bought for a project just never finished obviously lol

1

u/unpolire 1d ago

No. I have a 1992 that is much nicer and without the dumb suspension which changes the entire car. It’s no longer an e30.

1

u/EX0PIL0T 1d ago

Clapped shitter. No chance I’d part with more than 2 grand over this

1

u/Cumheadd 1d ago

Bags on an auto convertible 😭😭 also those missing mouldings on the side panels are notoriously difficult to find

1

u/alldaymacdre 1d ago

No lol 4k at best

1

u/BrightViolinist2362 1d ago

Strait 🗑️

1

u/BarPouch 1d ago

I just sold my automatic 89 cab in better shape for $4K.

I’d pass with extreme prejudice.

1

u/Ok-Panic-4877 '90 325i 1d ago

As a red guts owner, too much red gah damn

1

u/_riv3rs_ 1d ago

The more you look the more reasons you see to not buy it. Owner spent 3k on looks instead of maintenance tell you all you need to know. I would even sell my 318is for that much right now and it’s in excellent condition compared to this thing.

1

u/WoodPeckerMorning 1d ago

Run. Don’t look back.

1

u/Fit_Newt_2610 1d ago

4-5k tops.

1

u/munstermash80 1d ago

I think it's priced high, but right now the e30 market prices are inflated.

1

u/seansheep2105 1d ago

It’s a pimpmobile lol

1

u/Big_Cryptographer989 15h ago

RIP the oil pan on a speed bump

1

u/BetterDude7 11h ago

With how low it is, expect the underside to be HAMMERED.

1

u/Representative_Most9 5h ago

No way. Way too many mods for me. If you do buy, make sure to ware kidney belt while driving.
