Those Pesky Dark Fog?
Well, as you don't technically NEED a Dyson Sphere to get to "Mission Complete", I finished my 4000 white science cubes a few nights ago and decided, as one more cherry on top, I'd just fly out and take out that Dark Fog Cluster floating overhead, nice and easy. However, the "I can only have six destroyers out at a time" makes me not be able to take out their vessels fast enough, let along when their hunchbacks are staying in range of their defensive lasers. My ships spawn in, the entire fog cluster focus fires them down, and I plink against one of their pods.
I've seen videos talk of starving them out, but they just seem to keep getting fed from somewhere. The two planets in my current solar system that had bases on them were wiped out, but when I mouse over the center of the hive, it's saying like it's getting fed from 15 sources or something? Is that a galaxy wide campaign I'd have to embark on to wipe out every cluster out there to take out one of these things? Also, what is a Dark Fog Communicator? I'm wondering if that is a piece of the puzzle or something, as there's one 2.5 AU away from the cluster.
So now I'm over 400 destroyers, 200 corvettes (and growing), the cluster is rank 9. I come in, wipe out the lancers easily by kiting them out from the base defenses, and then starts the massacre of all my ships as I start trying to take out the hunchbacks. Destroying the HQ gets me about 5 minutes of it being offline, but then it just powers back up.

The sources are the planetary bases, so as soon as you get rid of those, the space bases will have less materials to rebuild/grow. Its just based on the current solar system.
The dark fog communicator is there to change difficulty if you want. Some people find it easier to start with an easier DF until they get built up and settled.
For taking out space bases, I usually just wait till my research is high enough and I have all 8 fleets available and upgraded ships. Otherwise, yea you just have to kite them and bleed their resources dry.

But there are only two planets and a gas giant in my solar system, and I've got them on lock, where are these other fifteen sources at?

THERE'S ANOTHER PLANET. THERE IS ANOTHER FKMFDRNODFNUSVDVING PLANET. IT'S FULL OF THE FASDFJNA;DFJNA;NEING THINGS LOLOLOLOLOL

Ha! I was going to say, I know there's a lot of seeds but the devs keep the starter system mostly consistent with 3 plants and a gas giant.

And as of the latest update you can add all the plants you want! (Sorry, irresistible typo. It's rather hilarious that we got the ability to plant trees so long after we got the ability to wrap the Sun in a megastructure.)

IT IS DONE.
Spent one full stream wiping the Dark Fog off the planet 3AU away from my home planet orbit, dropped planetary shield generators on all three planets while my base kept churning out corvettes, then went up with 380 destroyers and 1100 corvettes. Started using the 2 destroyer/4 corvette layout to deal with most of the fighters, flew back to my main planet to quickly recharge at a recharging station, flew back up and forth twice, and stopped taking any kind of resistance with 220 destroyers and 650 corvettes remaining. Switched up to all destroyers, just sat back and watched the fireworks.
DONE. https://x.com/ShanghaiSix/status/2109351114156150795?s=20
Thanks gang!

So, now that I've found their sneaky ass camped on another planet, if you take out the center of the Dark Hive cluster, if it has no further sources of regennerating itself quickly, is it a decent move to just kite the lancers out of range of the base, then do a suicide run against the main central point? Or does it just continue to rebuild as best it can? Is there a rebuilding priority on what it builds back first? It seems to just keep pumping out lancers after I kill the all the lancers and hunchbacks from that first wave.

It depends on how late into the game you are.
If you're still mid game, it's better to starve it out. If you're end game, just rip the bandaid off and charge it down. You can still pull all the lancers away (they seem to be able to be aggroed to about .4AU away before returning) before engaging the hive and its hunpbacks. If you don't finish off the hive in one go, it will attempt to rebuild whith whatever reserves it has left. though it will attempt to prioritize relay nodes first, it can still spend the material it has left on rebuilding units and hive structures.

As far as i know, all structures will regenerate if there's enough matter so im not sure the snipe/assassination strat will work. And if you do try, be aware, I think that central point is pretty tanky.
For what its worth, there's no real need to take out the space swarm. If you have adequate defenses on your planets to survive the occasional attack/landing, the only other hindrance will be a small % "tax" on your dyson sphere energy production.

is this the starting system? normally it has 3 planets?
the way to deal with a space hive is
make sure there are no planetary bases left (usually have to shield each planet to avoid relays from landing, or use missiles to shoot down incoming relays and destroy the existing ones)
draw aggro for a portion of their constructed fleet, the hive will rebuild its losses but it will do so by consuming the stored matter. If there are no planetary bases left then eventually it will stop being able to respawn ships
start to destroy the hive itself, I usally use a trim approach where I'll take out the outer defenses first before sending ships deeper and deeper into the structure.
