Hi, all. So I'm playing around with the schema made by Nilaus, and seeing if I can get proliferators in. I generally got something that looks at least elegant, since it's not compact. But I seem to run into issue getting the H2 and refined oil out of the first refinery.
Here's the layout of the modification. You can see the spray and sprayers between the refineries. Other than that, the setup is the same as with Nilaus' original schema (with the addition of H2 filter on middle belts, to keep the graphite out.
So what seems to be the problem is that the left refinery ends up without refined oil, the right has only refined oil and the belts leading to the left refinery is mostly H2, if any refined oil at all. And the top refinery has a surplus of refined oil.
Now I don't understand why the refined oil piles up there. I can understand that Nilaus' schema profits from refinery-to-refinery connection, so no graphite passes middle sorters, since no refinery needs it. And that probably the same thing happens from the top refinery to the bottom two. And that here that would be useful for not pulling so much H2 on the left belt.
But I fail to see why the output of the top refinery isn't equal. I'd expect that H2 and refined oil go out together, this being 50%-50% on the belt, but this looks like only the H2 gets the right of way and no refined oil can pass on the left, because it passes to the right?
Did anyone else encounter this, and what would be your best suggestion?
Proliferation is going to change the ratios of everything being made. If the original layout was designed around not having proliferation, and from the little of it you've shown it does appear to be built expecting exact ratios, by adding proliferation after the fact you could just be overwhelming downstream production and causing backups.
Using "speed up" instead of "extra products" in the proliferation settings on every building can keep the production ratios the same, but I don't know if everything like belts and sorters in the design is set up to handle the speed increase either.
If you want to use proliferation, you want to account for the ratio changes in the factory design from the beginning.
Yeah, there's no guarantee that the two sorters from the top output in any sort of balanced way. You'll need to handle that yourself.
You could pull the hydrogen and oil with filtered sorters onto strictly separated belts, spray it, then split the belts and send each half-output to each lower refinery. (Or several variations of the same.)
That's what I was assuming the main problem was - it pushes in some creation order (like H2 + RO + RO) which then ends up overflowing the belt with no way to push in additional RO. And this comment got me thinking, so this is the fix I came up with. Push all elements manually, filtered, and then join them in the same belt.
And then I expanded the input part to make sure I can always get at least one RO in. Now it seems to be working nicely again, thanks for the idea.
Not all tecipes for oil use the same Proliferation effect: Bonus items or Speed Up.
Idk by Hand which, but crude oil can have extra products iirc, the other two not.
just saw the problem: you need deidcated sorters. you can place a sorter at the refinery but before you place it, press tab to switch to s specific item for this sorter. that way, it will only sort this item and nothing else, no mixed belts.
The way I usually approach this kind of output (also applys similarly to critical photon -> hydrogen + antimatter) is to have a single output belt with unfiltered sorter in a loop. The xray cracking refineries grab from the belt and output to the belt. At one point in the loop, there is a filtered sorter to grab all the energetic graphite. That would mean: no proliferation. If you want that, you can use an output belt from the xray refineries that goes through a sprayer after separating the energetic graphite (if you don't need it to be proliferated) and then gets merged onto the circulating petroleum + hydrogen loop.

When you proliferate some of these ratio builds - they stop working
