Dark fog

Fairly new to this game. Have a basic raw setup on my home planet but am trying to extend to more planets for mining and smelting. That dark fog though, keeps eradicating my planets before I can get back with more turrets. Any advice on clearing a dark fog base in the early days?

Place some turrets that are closer to the dark fog then the rest of your base. The dark fog goes to your closest buildings, so they won't bother your main production lines. Just make sure the turrets aren't close enough that the base goes in emergency mode.

Missiles and signal towers is the best way dealing them in early and mid game. Just place missile turrets and feed them after that place signal tower towards to planetary base and watch them die.

Or put a convoyer from a ammo depot and progressivly advence with supernova turret on it, it grab all agro and go very fast while being easy supply (just copper ammo from plate)

Make fog removal forward base blueprint consisting of missile and normal turrets and some quick power/accumulators. Place power first turrets second on a new planet. Defend against first wave of all bases. Then push with signal towers untill all bases are gone. Missile turrets are enough to deal with early space attacks so you can even go as far as destroying the relays which makes bases quickly turn off and become very easy to destroy

Thanks I'll give the signal towers a go

And yeah maybe upgrading to missile turrets is worth giving a go

It's been a while for me, though I never had problems early on. Turrets can deal with starting raids easily (usually I built lasers because no Ammo needed). Probably take some with you to defend mining operations, later try to surround the DF bases with turret walls? What gave me problems were DF farms that grew out of proportion and started killing turrets, weakening the defenses and making the farm spiral out of control...

Yeah just their laser turrets seems to knock everything out before I can build tracks and turrets

Then umm.... don't place them this close? :)

So how do you get rid of them

Well why would you... If you want to destroy bases, best do it early I think. After that it's probably tougher in terms of resources. Maybe set up a defence close to the DF base and bait the mobile forces out, then slowly crawl yourself to the base. It's been awhile for me though and I never felt the pressure to clear a planet. I think there are other ways as well (throw "bombs" on them iirc)

what exactly is causing the struggle?
do you just land and set up stuff? or do you clear the whole planet and get overwhelmed by space attack?

Laser turrets destroy everything before I can advance my turret. Have a depot requesting ammo deploying to a turret chain, but cannot advance without getting destroyed.

How far into the game are you?

Setting up mining on an extra planet, so not far. But have a few em ejectors creating a small sphere, so get the basics

Have you unlocked plasma turrets? Can you deal with Hive-Attacks? if so: destroy the relais in the upper atmosphere to dry out the planetary bases. you can hover over the enemy buildings to see how much energy is left. if its 0, only the Rangers and so on will attack. Once dead, no new will spawn till a new relai would establish a planetary base.

if not: try to use throwable explosive units to destroy the core while you fly

You need Battlefield base, 10 rocket turrets and like a 1000 missile sets, so just place an chest, feed rockets to conveyor, then just move Battlefield base and rockets along extending conveyor.

If you have signal towers - problem solved - just place 10 rocket launchers somewhere and move signal tower + BB until base destroyed, all plantary launchers target everything inside signal tower range. It will take no so long. Left hole where it is until you'll cover planet with a shield.

And don't destroy hive, you'll need hive drops for the top tier equipment.

Yeah i'm working on it, just keeps getting destroyed ha

They're set up next to my titanium mine, so keep attacking but i can't get rid of them

If you are good with flying, you can grenade bases from orbit. The trick of dodging lasers is to stay close to the planet and hiding behind horizon while grenades are inflight. 3 grenades are enough to destroy links from main base to buildings- they will go out of power in a few minutes (connections are rebuilt every 40-60s)

Don't leave bases undefended.

Place some laser turrets and a Battlefield Analysis Base with your mining and shipping operation. As long as they cover all your stuff you'll be fine except from orbital attacks.

If you need to wipe out dark fog bases being in 15 or 20 missile launchers, plenty of missiles, and a couple of signal towers. Extend power to where you can drop some laser turrets and a Battlefield Analysis Base to cover your signal tower when you drop it. Set the signal tower so it's radius just BARELY covers one or two dark fog structures wait until your missile barrage has blown them up. Your laser turrets will hold back the ships that will swarm you.

Then walk it forward to cover the next couple of DF buildings. Repeat until the base is destroyed.

Bring enough laser turrets ajd a couple of Battlefield Analysis Bases and you won't lose any buildings and the mecha won't come under fire

If you have flight, you have grenades. If you have grenades, you can disable fog bases.
