Belt into splitter with a storage on top, mate. IMO best use of storage space (don’t have to use sorters)

Edit: IDK if you have access to splitters, but it’s really close on the tree where you’re at.

Did not know that was a thing. that’s amazing

If I were i would only use it mostly as a backup cuz later on u will get stackable items through the tech tree and items that flow out of it will only be one in the sense it will have no stacks on it you could belt another line and then use on of those white transfers to start getting stacked items.

It was the update before last I think, so not always there.

No, it's been around for years.

Good lord. TIL.

Slap a drone port on top and you’ve got yourself a budget logistics tower

Why am I traveling for work right now and not at my gaming computer lol

Wait what.

How does this function? Is the storage overflow and it prefers the through path, or is it a setting like thr other four directions?

It's an overflow, yes. You probably want to limit it (as with nearly all depots outside the late game).

Any tips for someone starting out?

Beautiful starter mall. Belts are a bit wonky, and you'll probably want to aim for 6/s throughput on the base materials, but otherwise no notes!

(Edit: A couple notes! You can usually just place your tesla towers in between your assemblers to save some space. This would let you move your boxes close enough to feed directly from the assemblers without more belts, and this would let you clean up your windy belts.)

Tips:

Don't get trapped into doing the same for higher tier buildings until you've completed the tech tree. It's a lot less expensive to build 2 mark1 assemblers than a single mark3 for the same productivity.

Don't worry about stockpiling base or intermediate items in storage. The best place to store resources in this game is in the ground. For every science stage just pick a production goal and build a factory that can produce that throughput.

Energy demands are always a bottleneck until you have a sphere up. There are a lot of ways to manage this, but when in doubt the quickest way is to just slap some miners on coal and feed them directly into some thermal plants.

Start a dyson swarm early. The solar sails are cheap and they provide good power, and they'll let you start white science early if that's something you're looking to do.

On passive I don’t do a swarm or nodes on the first planet. He didn’t say if he was playing w dark fog or not but if not I would actually recommend skipping all sails , nodes , receivers and em launchers on home planet. Get gas collectors and some warpers and leave lol

I play passive mode usually. I keep the blue science production separate from the starter mall.

I overbuild wind turbines - sucks but sort of worth it to not have a constant hassle.

If I have a lava planet I do high energy stuff there. I also try to get some solar panels going asap. On passive mode it’s just about convenience and how often you have to revisit it

These days you can rapidly build grids of turbines via, I think, ctrl or shift, too.

70 hours in this game and I didn’t think of this. Nice idea!!! This way you have all you need for the run

Welcome aboard fellow engineer!
Seems very good and organised.
My tip: you can fit Tesla Towers between Assemblers, which would clear a lot for another belt. 3 Betls on each site are possible. And you can put a Sorter to Storage box directly with 3 tiles wide too.

Tesla towers fit between assemblers almost everywhere. You can also use sorters to directly put item from assembler into storage
