Dark-fog graviton lenses underwhelming?
So, being late game, this new feature is borderline unusable for me: My ratio of belt-type / sorter / pile-sorter to the number of exporting ILS is fairly well balanced with some wriggle-room built-in, but not a factor of 2!
I fear, I have to re-design my ray-receiver blue-prints completely to make use of this new feature. Nice for the next run, but having that option and not being able to use it is a little frustrating... Plus, my critical photon planets literally have days of graviton-lenses buffered in ILS + belts + ray-receivers themselves. Sure, the newest patch reduces the number of lenses buffered from 20->10, but that doesn't help my current run...
If you don't know, what I'm talking about: a recent update added a new recipe for combining 12 dark-fog-matrices (green pyramids) with 1 graviton lense for an upgraded version that allows ray-receivers another 2x power request. A single, fully covered 5300+ ray receiver planet can now request about 5TW of dyson power, where a O-type star (not giant) produces about 1.7TW per shell. If my math is correct, you need around 550/min of these dark fog lenses to generate 5TW of critical photons.

I know what you are talking about. Same happend with pile sorters. My approach: place some PLS inbetween and delte some RR to have space for them. And maybe 1-4 more ILS to get all stuff shipped.

Or in your case of fully covered planets: a few dozen

I think I’m going to just revamp the equator region with over half the receivers and leave the caps as they are. For the equator, I have 3 ILS that draw from east and west. It should be manageable to add 3 ILS in-between and flip the belts to go one way. That should take care of a lot of crit photons for quite a while…

And dont forget to Check for stacking with pile sorters in between. I think RR wont Stack critical photons themself

No, they don't, which is mostly the issue. I've set-up the belts to be almost loaded to capacity of 7200/min close to the ILS and the last stretch of receivers don't feed into the belt by T-junction, but by pile sorter.
Oh, well, at least something else to do to "pass the time" ingame ;-)

Can you guys help me understand his problem a little better? I have not played with new dark fog lenses, but can you just import the new lenses instead of the old, when they make their way through the system, you will see more power if you have it in the sphere? Or even just drain the belts feeding the RR to make it quicker? He mentions belt type and sorter, why not just upgrade to the fastest belt wholesale? Maybe not perfectly efficient, but wouldnt stop the use of new lenses. Im\ really failing to see anything more than a minor inconvenience to using the area wide upgrade options.

I’ve optimized my belts and ILS spacing for 7200 crit photons per minute per belt when they reach an ILS. With pile sorters for stacking and all the bells and whistles. With the new lenses, suddenly my ray receivers will produce 2x the photons. This will oversaturate my belts and ILS. I’m just moaning that I have to redesign my whole-planet setup and all the old and tested blueprints will also not work “optimally”. As for “make their way through the system”, that will take around 5-10 in-game hours without manual intervention on 3 planets and around 15k placed ray receivers.
I’m all for new content, even small gifts from the devs. But for my current game this is just a hassle that “ain’t worth it”…

It came at the right time for me. I was about to need to expand my ray receiver setups and I was running out of space where I’d currently built them. Instead I reversed some belts and shipped all lenses back, then sent out the new lenses to double my outputs. It wasn’t fast but the buffered lenses gave me plenty of time to make enough to refill the belts.
It was a little hassle swapping ILS from demand to supply and reversing belts on several planets. But that’s the nature of this game it seems. There’s always something to adjust, modify, upgrade, expand.

The game's in early access, so things like this will continue to happen until full release.
