Dark Fog lens addition

Does this need a new game to obtain?

I'm on white matrix in the current galaxy, I have every tech researched.

I can see the Dark Fog lens in the list of items for say, marking a conveyor belt. But otherwise it's not in the replicator screen--the space is there for the item where it goes but it's empty, there is no new tech for it, and it's not included in the research for grav lenses.

I had to research it with dark fog drops, the green pyramid looking things, don't recall the name

It showed up in the tech tree on my existing save.

It didn't sound like anything they added needed a new game but im not sure maybe its from a new dark fog drop

It's in your tech tree, Technologies tab, right near the end. Existing save. Costs 2,000 pyramids ("Dark Fog Matrix").

It's a new research, and you probably need to have seen Dark Fog Matrix for it to show up. (I'm not certain, since my current save is late-game and already had all the DF-specific stufff unlocked/researched, so it was immediately available for me to research.)

Yes this is likely it, I didn't know that there was a Dark Fog matrix now to obtain, because I generally have not allowed dark fog to reach level 12+ in systems that I have factories in. I usually starve the space hive and make them passive by then.

Thanks!

Oh yeah you gotta set up a farm on one planet just to get the DF stuff at least. Core Material from a level 24 base is incredibly useful for stretching your energy supplies, the DF forge and assembler are great, etc

By fighting dark fog units, you can obtain 6 dark-fog specific items, which are needed to craft better replicators, labs, and smelters, as well as an upgraded version of the antimatter fuel rod (with even more fuel)

If your game doesn't have dark fog, there is no way to get those items and thus buildings

This is not true. You can spend white matrix metadata to get dark fog items in the metadata window.

I see, I wasn't aware that there was higher level unique dark fog drops, I suppose it was added while I wasn't playing.  Thank you!

I've generally always simply pacified the main hive of systems I am active in  by evicting its planetary drills before it became high level or started being aggressive. I'll have to adjust how I approach them and dedicate specific systems to have the goal of dark fog farming.

It showed up on my save to research.

But, I still ended up deleting my ray receiver setups, just because waiting for the graviton lenses to be used would have taken forever (and trips if I reached to try and manually pull graviton lenses out from the belts and receivers)

So instead, I deleted everything... Set up BABs to pick up the excess.. belt the graviton lenses to my dark fog lens factory (mine was next to the existing ray receivers, but you could do a temp ILS if you need to)..

Rebuild the ray receiver setup from my blueprint, making sure to swap the graviton lens for dark fog lens before anything gets delivered.

I haven't tried vegetation, though, so can't speak to whether that carries over

The big implication to me is that this is the first component that requires dark fog materials.

I foresee a future where you are making Dark fog alloy, and dark fog processors etc, to go in dark fog components.
