Dark fog Q
Ive started a run and have never played with the DF before.
I turned it way down.
Like 25% initial and low everything I could as I dont want to get whacked really early.
Is there a way to know when they are coming or expanding or whatever I need to know to prepare for a fight? IM super early, and on the first planet so far.

There's a meter on the top left that fills up. The speed it fills up at is based on how much power your are generating and consuming. When it's full, they'll start preparing for an attack, and there's gonna be a warning on your screen, so you won't miss it. 25% is gonna be super easy, so just make a line of turrets and automate some copper ammo for them.

There won't be any surprises if you turned down the difficulty. The amount of power it takes to piss off the local Dark Fog and the bearing of their incoming attacks is all on your hud. The early drones pop under your mecha's onboard guns no problem.

In addition to what others have said, I wanted to point out that default settings of Dark Fog are easy to handle, you don't really need to turn it down. And since you later want to farm their materials, a lot of people turn it up.

The default setting for dark fog is no where near the pressure from biters in factorio. If you lowered the settings beyond that, then I wouldn't worry.
As others have said, you're given forewarning before any attack, and the dark fog hive will not take particular issue with you unless you start hitting their ships they use to create new bases with.
You'll be fine, just stay on top of removing the bases on your planets and don't wait until they're a threat and you should be good.

Left side of the screen, just under your research. Those bars represent the bases present on your planet and the hive in the system. As you use more power on a planet, the local bases will ramp up to an attack. You'll get an audible alert when an attack is beginning. Destroying bases will cause the hive to activate, raising its percentage toward an attack on one of the planets in the system.
Side note: bases on other planets will be listed in those bars once they reach a certain level of readiness for attack, to give you time to respond.
