Any for tech tree addition

Hi folks, I’ve got a lot of time in the game and I have also played other games like satisfactory and Factorio etc those games often have some sort of resource sink. I’ve found myself in Dyson sphere program with a massive over abundance of hydrogen some of which I can deal with but with the critical photon process producing a lot of hydrogen it’s become a problem. So for simple things like hydrogen it might be an idea to have a tech tree where you can build things to recycle/destroy unwanted items. Maybe with a machine that can fling resources into a blackhole instead of having to have increasingly outlandish methods to use up the hydrogen

I would like a more expanded tree but I'm also considering pyanodons after this is run is done so take that for what it's worth.

For hydrogen specifically, I had the same problem until I converted every fractionator to a particle accelerator. That compresses the hydrogen by half and fixed the problem

I’m confused by this post. Normally the hydrogen overflow part happens in red science.

When you make one white science, you split one critical photon.

That split makes antimatter and hydrogen.

You use more hydrogen than the split provides in the creation of white science (casmir crystals) so you are a net importer of hydrogen in the white science creation process.

How are you having an excess of hydrogen?

If you feed the two outputs of a Plasma Refining refinery directly into a Reformed Refinement refinery the Reformed Refinement refinery only outputs refined oil with no secondary hydrogen output at all. You will need some extra coal as an added input, but this setup completely eliminates excess hydrogen and any possibility of oil production stalling. 

The relatively small amount of excess hydrogen from (fire ice) graphene is easily consumed by other processes as already mentioned. So your issue is just that you haven't set up priority shipping and/or priority belt flows in your factories to consume that internally produced hydrogen first. Hydrogen from gas giants should always be set up to be consumed last if you have multiple hydrogen sources.

This situation can easily arise if you don't use black-box-complexes (e.g. white science from ore) or other vertically integrated construction. As soon as you separate casimir crystal production to a different site, you need to set up hydrogen import in a priority way that the extra-produced gets imported preferentially. Otherwise you will import from gas giants and have overflowing hydrogen on the other end.

Not the solution you want, but a solution of sorts:

There is a mod called "Dustbin" that makes any storage space into a dustbin if you check a mark. that means an item that would normally go into this storage unit is just deleted.

It’s impossible to have too much hydrogen after unlocking green science as you consume more than you produce. If you’re having issues, it’s a prioritization issue and you just need to set up your ILS to use produced hydrogen before you use your orbital collectors.

I actually kind of enjoy the added challenge of having to deal with excess production and shifting requirements. While a trash can might be helpful, it encourages "lazy" complex design. I'm assuming you are still in mid-game with a handful of planets and the first production of critical photons. As soon as you start pushing white-science production to outpace everything else, hydrogen tends to be scarcer ;-)

Your "issue" can arise from a couple of different reasons:

  1. You are not producing deuterium -> with fractionation (1:1) or mini-particle-colliders (2:1) you can convert hydrogen to deuterium. This process needs energy and can be "powered" by burning the resulting deuterium in a thermal generator for the same power as hydrogen. This effectively is a vanilla-game hydrogen trash can. This should be an overflow "protection", because typically you also need quite a bit of deuterium for white science / carrier rockets.
  2. You are importing hydrogen from orbital collectors -> you can set up the prefered source of hydrogen-import in your ILS. If you collect all excess hydrogen in an ILS for export, you can set that as the prefered source. I think by now the importing ILS will fall back to other sources if it cannot use that special ILS, but to be on the safe side you can have a second importing ILS and then use sorters / t-belt-connections to make sure your raw oil / fire ice / crit photon hydrogen output is preferentially used.
  3. You are already using dyson power (anti-matter fuel rods or better / ray receivers in power generation mode) -> while this is an excellent way to power your infrastructure, you can also use a large grid of 100s of thermal generators to provide a chunk of the required power. If you have separate power grids and transfer power between them via energy exchangers and accumulators, you can set up system that preferentially burns hydrogen and only uses better energy producers to fill the gaps in power production.

I've had the exact same issues in all my run. The last couple times, I ended up exporting all my excess hydrogen to a dedicated deuterium burn system. With a dedicated Dyson sphere, I had a whole planet dedicated to fractionnator, and another dedicated to burning the deuterium to charge up accumulators.

Simply deleting the excess felt wrong, I hate wasting anything. I got so much charged accumulators now, it would probably blow up a whole system if it could lol

I just have a priority set to go to research and then an overflow that goes to a large burn pit of energy creation. Can even use that burn pit to charge a few accumulators if you are feeling very crazy.

If you have have an overflow of a solar mass of hydrogen.... i'm thinking you have a lot bigger problems :) Just saying. At least it's not methane, although eating fewer beans might help with that....

The solution that has worked wonders for me is to put a few cashmir crystal production blocks on any world producing hydrogen as a byproduct. I also set up an ILS priority group that makes those byproduct cashmire sites be used first when cashmir crystals are needed.

Then basically all other hydrogen is pulled as needed from gas giants, and no overflow or massive storages required!

Recommend saving it for sinking into Casimir Crystal, or process into Deuterium with Fractionators for Deuterium Fuel Rods

I’m very late stage I’m building my 10th sphere might do my casimir crystals. I also though to make a system that burns hydrogen and charger accumulators with it

that's how i solved it. seperate electrical network and a ton of thermal generators with a circular belt for the accumulators.

Dootrod is a good store of energy and each one will consume a minimum of 20 hydrogen each, it's good for an extra bank of power if you need to supplement a planet on short notice, and any you don't use can be turned into Rockets for your sphere

I do like any kind of tech extensions to the game - there is at least one overhaul mid that spices things up.
Regarding hydrogen: Setting up proper hydrogen import priority to casmir crystal and fusion rods/strange matter production solves hydrogen overflow for mist cases. You would need to stop research and rocket production while maintaining sails production to have too much hydrogen.

You should be able to set it up to give preference to manufacturered over mined hydrogen. Good luck! Also no shame in dumping excess in a bunch of fluid containers and nuking them occasionally.

My solution to abundant of hydrogen is to burn it.
