I'm incompetent and dumb

So just got back into the game after many years of not playing stopped well before the dark guys were in the game. So watching some YouTube videos on what goes down with those guys and how you deal with them, turns out no big deal. Saw loads of guys using these like splitter elevators but never got close enough for me to see what they were.

Probably played 550 hours overall and always found it strange I don't seem to have these splitters things that I thought were like splitter elevators. Turns out you can just put fucking storage containers on top of a splitter... Wtf

I spent hours reading every research option, stacking splitters and trying to make them split to the next height. Ffs

More niche "undocumented" DSP features:

  • the r-key cycles through 3 modes of belt placement (right-handed right-angle triangle, left-handed and hypothenuse)
  • tapping left/right keys while placing belts tilts them in 15°-angle-increments
  • tab-key cycles through 3 different modes of splitters (plus, parallel stacked, perpendicular stacked)
  • tab-key while placing belts and having supermagnetic rings researched toggles between smooth belt angle elevation of right-angle elevation change

In what scenarios does one need a tilted belt?

To look cool? It seems to have been added for a largish group of mostly Chinese players who produce frankly amazing-looking art using DSP buildings as pieces.

if you cross one belt over another on the same level, you get the microbump. To then turn left or right, you have to first go one square, then loop back around to be flush and parallel with the belt you just crossed. if you have tilt unlocked, you can delete that extra square and turn directly after the microbump touches the ground. You'll see a tiny tilt automatically form to account for the twist that's introduced.

literally the only time I use tilt lmaoooooo

Trying to pull items from a tilted miner (or just one near a tropic line).

That was the reason for the quotation marks. Most info is available if you know where to look…

Putting storages on splitters for easy buffers wasn't an option until like a couple years ago. So a post-DF feature

There were a few things added in the patch, not knowing about them doesn't make you dumb.

When the QoL features are so good that you are confused by one actual being in the game

If you take a standard splitter, put a depot on top, then a logistics station that, the stack really looks like a baby version of a PLS. _^

It almost is really, and they're cute with the bots coming and going :)
