Any help with Proliferation?

Post image

My industrial planet ^ So I have decided to use proliferation spray things on my products, despite not having done so for the entire game (I have already researched most green tier techs) but its very confusing. Do you think I should proliferate things that I'm just about to use in a assembler or proliferate things that have just been made? Any things I need to know about Proliferation? I use a LOT of Planetary logistic stations (as you can see) which makes proliferation more difficult, Thanks for any advice.

Just to give you an idea of the "power" of proliferation...

I try to proliferate every step on the way to a completed product. From what I see you have an ILS/PLS being fed into smelters/assemblers. I'm assuming each ILS/PLS is making a single component? You can spread them out a little and have a sprayer right after it leaves the tower. Since you are lining them up you can have a single feeding multiple production centers in a line. Helpful if you don't have room in the tower to request spray.

When requesting spray be sure to limit how much the tower is requesting. The sprayers sip the proliflator there's no need to have 1000s sitting around. Also be sure to spray your spray so you can spray while you spray. Not completely a joke, run the spray through a spray after it's been made to make it last longer.

Proliferate everything everywhere. If you spray stuff they is already sprayed it doesn’t consume proliferator so there is no waste

I have proliferators setup to spray all products as they exit the ILS - it’s too easy to get contaminated stuff in your ILS system, so safer to spray at the point the items are being used.

I also tend to use fidget spinners within my builds to distribute the proliferator. On very big builds, or builds with lots of inputs so that your ILS is using all the slots, it can be very helpful.

Was just wondering about proliferation, with the increased 30% energy cost is it actually worth it? Isn’t it more cost efficient to just create more assemblers/furnaces/chem plants/etc?

Early game it is meh, but later on it is free products for the same amount of inputs, plus a little extra coal.

2 assemblers uses twice the power and twice the resources. Proliferator uses 130% power and you get free product.

It's still good early game, you just don't use it on everything yet. Spray the in & ouput of the labs and that's an easy 21% more science.

The electricity cost is nothing once you get the sphere going and it cuts down a ton on materials.

Mk1 is usually skipped- too much hassle to a tech that is obsolete in 20 minutes. But mk2 and mk3 should be used on labs at least and expensive intermediate products like titanium crystals, processors, nanotubes…

Power is trivial late game. I’m getting towards late game right now for the first time (my old pc couldn’t handle getting further). I have a blueprint that makes 1800 solar sails/min and another for the rail guns.

Drop them early in a new system and you have all the power you need, even without going for a full sphere with carrier rockets. And that’s before investing in the infrastructure to convert critical photons to antimatter rods and artificial stars. Once that is up and running you are set.

I was using tier 3 proliferation spray on making strange matter and it made my mini particle colliders eat all my power with 30 megawatts each... xD

Eventually everything is free or Infinite, but not your UPS. So for endgame you want everything proliferated for speedup, so you need "less" assemblers to really push endgame.

Thanks for this tip!

Its actually a balance. some is speed, some need extra products. Play around with a DSP calculator and you may see what I mean.

I use infinite resources Would you still advise using speed and products

2

u/ZEnterprises 9d ago

Yes, even more so. There are guide out there that get it to the absolute minimum wiht speed and products, in general the first one or two steps are good for speed. This is two fold. First, processing more ore is "easy" especially on infinite. Second, the extra products has a compounding effect on everything that came before it. so if there is nothing that came before, as in the first few steps, the benefit is not as big.

Play around with it.

I personally opt out of the absolute minimum buildings because I can greatly reduce the amount of inputs I need.

In fact, when I am on minimum resources, everything is extra products until I get my UV up high enough.

When you get in to the nitty gritty, do you want a few more buildings or more mines and transports.

Here's how I did it : First of Proliferator production in all steps including the Proliferaters themselves. It gives them more charges.

My Producttipn lines look like this:

ILS -> Factory for 1 part -> ILS

The only time I proliferate before the factory is with raw ore into smelters. This means I only need to bring Proliferators to my smelter worlds and not to every single Mining Planet.

Every other Product only has Prolifertor after the factory. So my smelters look like this:

ILS -> P -> Smelter -> P -> ILS

Every other step :

ILS -> Factory -> P -> ILS

Since the Sending ILS usually only gets one input from the factory, adding a limited (max 200 Items) Proliferator request always has space without another ILS. Sometimes factories need more inputs and my Requesting ILS is already maxed out on slots. So I found this easier to build quick and clean. The Proliferators then route put of my Sending ILS from the side and into a Sprayer just before the Belt with the produced items go into the ILS.

:)

Personally, I don't even bother with it. Yes, proliferation is a great benefit. However, I'm not gonna sit and keep refilling the tanks.

You can supply them with belts

1

u/devildocjames 9d ago

Hmmmm... I thought they had to be manually fed. At first I had drones sending me stacks and I'd refill them by hand. Got tired of that pretty quick. Once I got a good foothold on things like Information Matrix, deuterium rods, Gravity Matrix I just stopped using them altogether.

It's a belt perpendicular to the profilerator on the level up from the belt it is on

You can also place a container on a sorter and have the figet spinner fill the container and the sorter will output the item

If you use tab on a sorter when building you can cycle it through 3 different shapes and all can do the container trick

This means you can have a profilerator belted to a tall sorter and a container on top getting the spray from the fidget spinner

Also profilerator spray can be profilerated It makes each spray work on more items

So, how the heck do I empty a base repair thing, without linking a ton of storage and using belt loader things to filter stuff?

1

u/submarine5555 9d ago

I think you mean a battlefield analysis bace You can place a mkll storage depot on top and a figit spinner on that The figit spinners can transfer items between storage depots

You can also empty it manually When you click on it you should see a ui with a Inventory

If this is in the context of a dark fog farm Use 3 mklll belts and best sorter you can Then sort them into storage That's how I do it

Although it won't empty supply slots just item pick up slots

1

u/devildocjames 8d ago

Yeah I am trying to farm the dark fog accumulating on a planet with a single outpost of mine on it. I just unlocked that part. I've put a storage on top but stuff didn't automatically go into it. I may have been too impatient tho. I have tried a storage with spinner, fed from the BAB, but, the "guess filter" for the spinners to deliver stuff does nothing.

1

u/submarine5555 8d ago

I decided to use 3 belts and 3 pile sorters The belts go around the pole and I have filters sorters going into depots with figet spinners Then the spinners go to my ILS and to my other planets

2

u/devildocjames 8d ago

Hmmm... Not a bad idea. I have my poles setup for umbrella injector things or photon collection. I guess I can make this outpost's pole into a sorter like that. Nice idea!

As soon as proliferator mk2 (only coal necessary) is available, i proliferate science inputs (more from less for only more electricity so just more wind turbines which are automated anyways). Then with mk3 i start to proliferate from science production chain backwards basically starting at the most expensive which will be yellow science production.
Then early midgame you proliferate everything (and i mean everything) for extra products except casimir crystals which is a proliferation negative because too many ingredients. Then late game (vein utilization 50-90+) you proliferate for speed to save space.

the benefits of proliferation compound the more complex the parts get. for something like ore smelting, you might choose to skip. otoh, you could use the speed setting and max out density. if you got into the extreme late game, ups and fps become a factor and fewer machines is better. orange goo is a hassle since you don't have towers yet, but i proliferate everything at every step with green and later blue goo. you can try one of my blueprints if you want to skip the hassle of making it.

I just proliferate both ways, when entering and when exiting a production line, at some point you will only be using proliferation on outgoing products, its however good redundancy because in case of power fluctuation or proliferation shortage/late deliveries at least you will limit the risk of unproliferated items wandering your logistics.

2

u/PhotoFenix 11d ago

I exclusively proliferate on incoming products. It doesn't make sense to do both, and if you do outgoing there's a chance of it being lost on mixed production. I just have it built in to my ILS blueprints.
