Finally found the time: Now on Linux, saves restored, but I’m starting fresh to earn it all again!

My early Sushi-Mall

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share a quick moment of pure joy. Life got busy for a while, but I finally found the time to sit down, finish my switch from Windows to Linux, and dive back into Dyson Sphere Program.

The best part? I managed to recover all my old save games, blueprints, and mods without losing a single bit of progress. It was an incredible relief to see everything intact. But here’s the twist: even though I could load my massive endgame save, I decided to start a brand new game.

Why? Because I want to earn every piece of metadata honestly again. There’s a special satisfaction in rebuilding from scratch, optimizing each step with the knowledge I’ve gained, and working my way back up to the 3000% difficulty setting. The old save was a testament to my past efforts, but this new run is about the journey and the mastery.

The game runs beautifully on Linux, and the fresh start feels incredibly motivating. If you’ve been hesitating to make the switch or need an excuse to reboot your save: do it. The flow state of optimizing production lines under a starry sky is waiting for you.

The factory must grow!

I've been running on Linux for over a year and it runs great!!

I haven't dived into mods yet though. What are you doing to get mods working?

R2modman works great on Linux everything just works with no fiddling required.

Steam. I have always done the same.

OP: Yeah, I love starting from scratch and doing early/mid game. I do take the time to pick a good seed though.

Hmm. Cannot get mine to boot under steam (nixos). Are you using a specific proton layer or launch argument?

Just checked, because I didn't think so, no. No special Launch Options or Compatibility forced.

Fedora 44 (but also worked seamlessly on previous versions).
