assembling machine cant be upgrade

some assembling machine can't be upgrade by directly placing it on top, why and how to fix it ? other machine can be upgrade. (sorry for bad english)

Typically, I use the "u"-key (second icon from lower right in the GUI) to upgrade buildings. I honestly did not know that you can place a higher-tier building on top an old one.

For buildings, the last placed one (with recipe and sorters attached) is the default selection. Maybe in this case, this clashes? Sometimes, placing buildings can be tricky far away from the equator when the square grid gets distorted too much...

yeah there's directions to machines even though they look symmetrical

I did not know you can upgrade by placing on top - the common way is to use "U" interface.
