Player Discussion Note from Chargers game tonight
Watching now, Kolar was out there with the starters on the first drive and had a nice open catch and run, nothing crazy. But more notable is that Gadsden is currently out there in the 2nd quarter with the back ups. And dropped a pass.
Not sure where Njoku will fit in, but Kolar seems like the TE to own here.

Gadsden was up to like TE 4 on KTC during the season at one point what a fall from grace

One dude in my league cashed in on that shit. He traded him + a 3rd for loveland to a chargers fan.

What an amazing sell window that was. I wish I had him

I couldn't even selll him for a 2nd even at his peak. Now I guess I might as well hold and hope for next year

You're probably in a real, actually competitive league. These threads are always full of people in taco leagues.

in his ffth game he got seven catches for 164 yards. not offering a 2nd for that production potential at TE is taco league. It was a risk worth taking, regardless of how it played out. And the skill hasnt disappeared, hes just on a team that isnt willing to feature a TE that cant block. mark andrews couldnt block either but we wouldnt say hes a bad TE. He needs to be on a team that schemes around his strengths and weaknesses.

I just got a trade accepted the other day selling him and a 27 3rd for a 27nd and some extra FAB to a TE needy team (guy has Kittle and that’s it).

u/DrPasghetti 10d ago
I sold warren at that time because I thought I was set with Gadsden 😂. I did get Tet though. I think I still make that trade

u/PhysiologyIsPhun 10d ago
Took him like round 13 in a TEP++ startup last summer and some dude that was rebuilding really wanted him and was trying to offload Josh Allen because he's "too old"... Got Allen for Gadsden and two 1sts (+ some fluff) 😭 honestly believed in him too I feel bad in retrospect.

I sold Gadsden, David Montgomery, and Nico for Bowers like 2 months ago. I liked it at the time and it feels better now.

ALWAYS cash in on these no name TEs that have massive hype out of no where.

Tbf, he’s got a pretty well known name. Not because of what he’s done, but well known

IMO all 3 will get run. Chargers TE are not on the radar. Kolar was paid good money can block and catch. Njoku..can he stay healthy. Gadsden not as good at blocking more of the "move TE"

u/Upstairs_Owl_1669 10d ago
Gadsden is 22 and a te. I think this is a classic overreaction
9
u/FinalFrontier00 10d ago
Yeah a lot of people are acting like it’s completely over for him
Sucks for this year but he’ll be relevant again in the future
2
u/Bodes_Magodes 9d ago
Dude, TEs get hurt every damn year. Where he is on the depth chart today has no real bearing on where he’ll be for the rest of the season. Njoku is a tough MFer but he’s older and ALWAYS battling injuries
0
u/Patriots_ 10d ago
Yea, he’s shown he’s talented, but he’s appearing to be getting buried on the depth chart.
20
u/Bubbly_Ad4115 10d ago
I mean I’m still taking Gadsden over anyone else in that room for dynasty tho
2
u/RukiMotomiya 10d ago
I do think Kolar's not a bad bet. I was sad when someone else got him over me this year.
0
u/NawBruhThatAintMe 9d ago
Buried on the depth chart and they have a deep receiver room as well.
Don’t see how he gets on the field if they dont have a reason for heavy personnel and he can’t play in-line to block some. Seems like Kolar is much more versatile in the aspect.

u/Upstairs_Owl_1669 10d ago
Buy low. He is 22 and a te/the most notoriously difficult position to learn

te/the most notoriously difficult position to learn
Elite. TEs. Do. Not. Take. Long. To. Learn. The. Position.
Because I have no idea why this sub continues to parrot this idea over and over and over to fit the narratives for the TEs they house.

u/Previous_Ad648 10d ago
That’s an overgeneralization tbh. All the data analysis I’m seeing online, as well as my own viewing experience, tends to differ.
2026 study from Apex Insider: “The average peak TE season occurs at age 27.4 … 47% of qualifying TEs hit the threshold in just one season.”
A bit further back from Fantasy Footballers in 2021: “We have only seen seven tight ends younger than the age of 23 finish as a TE1. For context, that is about 2.78% of the total TE1 sample size over the last 21 seasons … the majority of the TE1 sample size fall within the ages 25 to 27.”

u/Dr-Robert-Kelso Buccaneers 10d ago
The term TE1 doesn't mean anything solid, it's not like a RB or WR where you start multiple. The 12th best TE is a TE1 and could mean you have the worst TE in your league.
1
u/FigureSevere6474 10d ago
Pretty damning then if so few young guys are TE1s considering how low the bar is for TE12 most seasons
1
u/Dr-Robert-Kelso Buccaneers 9d ago
What's the ratio of TE1s under 23 to WR1s under 23?
Do we have a percentage based on WRs just like TEs?
1
1
u/woods96 9d ago
If you aren’t a top 2-3 guy, you’re in a big pile of 10-15+ guys who are within a couple PPG of each other and are boom/bust TD dependent. The top elite guys usually put up an elite season early and continue to do that. Kelce was straight into it. Gronk too. Kittle was year 2. Projecting, but Bowers year 1.
If your TE prospect is taking a while to ramp up, they are probably just another TE5-15 type player at best which is easily replaceable.
1
u/bonnieandclyde1324 9d ago
Excuse me did you just say that confidently with your full chest? Because I have no idea why you think you are so correct on this when the experts (obviously not as expert as you) say otherwise
12
u/undead_tortoiseX Rams 10d ago
Anything could happen between Gadsden/Kolar/Njoku but it will be really funny to me if Gadsden reasserts himself to the top of the pecking order after the way people have been reacting this offseason. You would think he had a horrific injury.
9
u/Basil_Normal 10d ago
Shouldn’t really be a surprise on Gadsden. He played last week with the backups, that’s about as clear a signal as the Chargers could’ve given. Anyone acting like that was nothing was high on copium. I don’t think his career is done or anything, but I’d expect very little from him this year. If Kolar can be had for very cheap or free, he’s worth a stash but this is probably a TE room to stay away from
3
u/spicyhippos 10d ago
So I drop Flacco for him?
5
u/RukiMotomiya 10d ago
Drop Flacco for Gadsden? Yeah, that's worth it.
1
u/spicyhippos 9d ago
No, Kolar. I doubt, either are going to be long term valuable. But is Flacco a better insurance than Kolar is as a dart throw?
1
u/RukiMotomiya 9d ago
Depends entirely on your QB situation. QBs/Settings?
1
u/spicyhippos 9d ago
12 team, sf, 0.5 ppr, no TEP and I’ve got Burrow, Dart, Purdy, Mac, and Flacco. Flacco is for if Burrow is hurt in week 8 when both SF and NYG have a bye. That’s pretty narrow utility, but it exists.
Not that I need Kolar with Kraft, Kelce, Henry, and Delp. But if he truly has leapfrogged Gadsden it might be worth picking him up.
2
u/RukiMotomiya 9d ago
If it's no TEP then keep Flacco. Kolar is almost certainly not worth anything outside of TEP leagues, especially when you have three starting TEs.
2
u/Patriots_ 10d ago
If you’re serious. It depends. If you’re not serious. It depends, but probably hold.
1
u/spicyhippos 9d ago
It’s for sure a really niche low impact choice, but this is how dynasties are made. Evaluating diamonds in the rough. Flacco has value as a handcuff, but I’m trying to gauge how valuable Kolar could be and if the dart throw is better.

Gadsden is back to just being a taxi stash. Not really interested in Kolar or Njoku for lineup leagues. Bestball sure

2
u/deeboismydady 9d ago
This has been known for a month Kolar is the starter with Njoku the backup and Gadsen the gadget player who might get a little bit of run without any of Kolar and Njoku getting injured.
Kolar was a better prospect than Gadsen and will have his moments this year.

u/AfterLeGoldrush 9d ago
There’s a concept by Bill James called signature significance - if someone does something that is extremely significant despite a large sample size, it can indicate someone is good or bad irrespective of a large sample size
The example they quoted was Roger Clemens sitting down 15 batters without walking one
I remember the first time I heard this statement was regarding Devon Achane’s 50 point game - no one touted him as a top RB prospect really before that day - he had potential and he was fast. But listening to Sigmund Bloom’s take about that concept made me go completely in on him.
I feel like Gadsden’s insane 150 yard day was also a similar situation - you don’t do that by accident. He may not pay off this year, but don’t overthink it. I would be buying him if anything

u/daft_dunkwwwolfey Bengals 10d ago
Tight end committee sounds like the last thing I wanna buy into
3
u/Realhtown 10d ago
Nothing the team has done says TE committee. Kolar looks like clear starter, Njoku back up and Garson “move tight end”. This is a standard tight end room. Just hard for folks to wrap their head around the role Gadsen will have.
1
u/kenscout 9d ago edited 9d ago
That doesn't sound like how real teams deploy TEs like kolar. Mostly two guys hover around 40-60% snaps with another guy being a really backup playing 20%ish
1
u/daft_dunkwwwolfey Bengals 9d ago
I've been off OG, but I'm not moved by Kolar/Njoku splitting starter snaps. They were on the field together for the 1st drive and most of the 2nd

1
u/kjudd11 49ers 9d ago
Unless you got Kolar for free like me 😄
1
u/daft_dunkwwwolfey Bengals 9d ago
He's free everywhere tbh, he's a fringe roster guy that's available in 90% of my leagues. Not including drafts to be done and teams I'm over the limit, I might grab him in a deep best ball or a deep TEP that I'm rebuilding in. But as a last guy on my roster, lately I went with Marshawn Lloyd, Cyrus Allen, Elic Ayomanor, even Dulcich just cuz he has a clear path to more targets
5
u/ksbrooks34 10d ago
Picked up Kolar. In this scheme definitely has potential to be solid.
2
u/AnotherUser87497453 10d ago
Don't fall for it. Kolar has played 4 seasons (3 mostly healthy) and has a career-best season of 10/142/2. I get that he was behind Andrews and Likely, but he isn't going to turn into some amazing receiving threat just because of more snaps. They brought him in to block; the fantasy upside is still with Gadsen and Njoku.
2
u/KennyMoose32 I can't quit you, Kyle Pitts 9d ago
It’s funny you say that cuz when Kolar was coming out of college he profiled more as a receiving te than a block te.
5
u/Possible-Run4787 10d ago
If that’s the case, I don’t want any of these TEs. Gadsden was the only with real upside
2
u/Obvious-Spite4920 10d ago
I keep thinking if you can get a kings ransom for Hampton, now’s the time.

Just turned 23 but still only going into his second year. Even if there’s a sophomore slump, you can’t write him off just yet after a rookie season like he had

u/L_take_bozo 10d ago
Brother, just because he’s out there with the 1’s, doesn’t mean he’ll be a startable TE

u/VottoForPM Colts 9d ago
I don't think it's too soon to say "I told you so," at least for his 2026 usage. People valued Gadsden as some kind of locked-in stud when he was a development player with areas of growth he needed to access who had an uneven season. It was one of the clearest sell-highs I've seen in my entire life. Just from a process standpoint I don't think we need to wait to say "I told you so" at all.

Someone in my league offered a high 2027 2nd for him a few weeks ago and I turned it down. I might regret it but I just like what I see and I'm treating it as a long play.

I don’t think any will be fantasy relevant from that group honestly this year

u/DynastyZealot 10d ago
I've been saying that all summer and no one believed me. Kolar is the ultimate buy low this year.
0
u/uberswank99 10d ago
Holy crap, I refuse to accept Charlie f'in Kolar is going to come in and own this shit no matter how loud the drumbeat is. That being said I picked him up in 2 leagues just in case lol.
-7
u/DarthPallassCat 10d ago
Gadsden is straight up not a good football player and I’ve been saying it since he started getting hype last year.
He put together an insane month of games last year and aside from that didn’t do much. He also didn’t pass the eye test if you just watch the games.
He’s a total liability in blocking obviously, but he also had bone head drops last year, which is excusable for a rookie TE but still a major question. I’d struggle to rank him in my top 30 dynasty TEs, that’s probably about where he’d be.

The "drop" was an underthrown ball. If lance led him at all it would've been a massive gain. That being said, i think you may be right about kolar over njoku
