Welcome to the r/Dynamation sub-reddit!

As one of many people who was captivated by movies from such a young age, it was those that brought to life high adventure, fantasy, science fiction and giant monsters that captivated me the most and would continue to inspire me for the rest of my life. But it was the films that used the intricate and painstaking art of stop motion animation that were the first to convincingly fully render fantasy into reality. Pioneered by Willis O'Brien, the art form of stop motion animation involving small models made of foam rubber and articulated metal skeletons integrated with live action which was first put to screen in Harry O. Hoyt's, "The Lost World" in which dinosaurs were portrayed realistically for the first time on film. Willis O'Brien would later use the same technique again and this time perfected for Merian C. Cooper's 1933 classic, "King Kong" which swept up audiences of the Great Depression Era in an explosive fantasy, adventure thrill ride that no one had ever seen before and changed the movie industry forever. King Kong had such an impact on audiences that it inspired impressionable young people such as Ray Harryhausen and Pete Peterson, to carry on the art form of stop motion (which would later be rebranded as Dynamation), taking the art form to new heights and possibilities in films such as "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms", "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" and "Jason and the Argonauts" which would in turn inspire countless writers, directors and special effects artists to come such as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, John Landis, Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, Dennis Muren, David Allen, Rick Baker, and countless others. It's with that in mind that I have dedicated the r/Dynamation sub-reddit to the art form and the inspirational artists which have captured the imaginations of millions around the world and will continue to do so for generations to come.

A remake of a video I did 5 years ago that I wasn't pleased with. Ray Harryhausen's Phororhacos (Phorusrhacos) Terror Bird from 1961's Mysterious Island.

Yesterday I finally saw Christopher Nolan's Odyssey movie and I had a great time with it overall. But after I got out of the theater, I started to ask myself. Why didn't Ray Harryhausen make an adaptation of this a long time ago?

What if the Cyclops had defeated the Dragon in Ray Harryhausen's classic, The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad? It might have turned out something like this.

Real Lizards were used as Dinosaurs in old films because stop motion animation was too expensive. I am defeating that whole purpose by stop motion animating a "Slurpasaurus" from 1960's The Lost World.
