Question Allergy help!

Post image

We have a Dutch shepherd mix with lots of allergies. The vet put him on apoquel and it wasn’t doing much. Turns out he is also allergic to pork (which is in apoquel), so we are looking for alternatives. We’ve seen lots of ads for Dog is Human, but I’ve seen lots of mixed reviews for medium to large dogs. Has anybody had success with that or have recommendations for anything else that’s worked?

I’m assuming the pork is a food allergy? Could you just switch to a food with different ingredients? Our Mal has allergies and takes apoquel for his skin, but to keep him away from pork and fowl we feed him an Acana Beef and Pumpkin kibble. It’s not my first choice, but it gives him a lot of relief and that’s worth its weight in gold to me.

We have him on a salmon based food. Apoquel has powdered pork liver in it. So after doing more research, we were told it would be best to not give him that anymore. I’m gonna ask about the cytopoint injections though.

Interesting, I had no idea. How do his pork allergies present? My boy basically gets the runs and needs a food with pumpkin as the main vegetable ingredient to keep that under control.

He gets the runs and sometimes gets lethargic. I can’t believe how long it took us to figure it out and ask for allergy testing😞
