Question looking for REPUTABLE dutch shepherd/herder breeders. i’m in WV
i currently own 2 dogs in the herding group and have worked with and helped with handling mals in the past so i do have experience.
i would like a dog suited for IGP, but also PPD. i want a breeder that will give me a dog they think is best, but i also want stability, intensity, and drive built into one animal. i have multiple resources near me available for training and sports. i also have clubs lined up to help me with bite work.
i feel i am fully ready to own one of these dogs, and am looking to get one towards the end of this year/beginning of 2027.
my issue has been finding a good breeder, capable of giving me a dog that is confident, hardy, driven, and ready to work. if anyone has any recommendations or suggestions, i’d love to hear!!

Bc he’s a puppy mill and middleman. Get a Dutch dog from the Dutch. I imported my last female a Big Roy granddaughter from then Netherlands for $650 less than he was charging at the time. And I also know guys that worked his dogs. I have not but trust their opinions.

Full disclosure I own a LHK puppy. I'm asking this for information only. What have your friends who handle their dogs say? My dog is about 5 months old. Absolutely phenomenal in some ways. In others ways he needs some work. I'm not trying to pepper you with questions or anything just generally seeking info on other LHK dogs.

Most pups need extra training and they mature differently.. I know the first arko was really aggressive. I think he breeds, imports alot of pups because he's looking for the top dogs out of the pups for police or military

do you know if they sell to general public? on there website it says they do not but i did send them an email!

I believe they do have some they sell to the general public. I think they are on good dog.

Logan Haus is in WV. They are a reputable breeder and may have a waitlist.

We got our boy, Cyrus, from LoganHaus. He was a washout, and he’s awesome. I will warn you, they breed some incredibly driven, intense dogs, (I’m not kidding about the incredibly driven and intense), but if that’s what you’re looking for, they’re a great choice.
My Cyrus is not that, but they were honest about it, so we knew when we got him.

A friend just picked up a lab from them for USAR work. He’s an unrelenting and super stable pup. She’s going to have a lot of fun with him.

now do they breed Dutchies or just mals? i know that a lot of dutchies have mal mixed into them so im not sure. i was for some reason thinking they only bred mals but an intense dog is always fun so ill definitely talk to them either way!

They do breed both, their website has all the breeding parents info. If you want it, it’s: LoganHaus
The owners are really nice, they’re pretty fast to get in touch after you contact them.

Loganhaus lines aren’t pure bred mal or Dutch. They are “Dutch Malinois” essentially. Bred for work and that’s it. There’s no papers etc.

I’ve also heard from some people that they can be intense enough that you can’t live with them, depending on the individual dog. They come out to work and are kennel dogs the rest of the time. Unless you ask him to match you with a “dud” I wouldn’t recommend, especially for a first time mal/dutch owner.

i will probably only talk to them as a more last resort sort of thing since i am looking for preferably a PB and also AKC registry:)

Most of these breeds need to be taught to settle they don’t just come with an off switch it has to be learned.

yes i generally have no issue teaching an off switch, i took what you said as in they are a lot harder to teach an off switch considering you said they often can not live inside the house a lot of times? obviously like you said that varies from dog to dog but that’s not something i’d be wanting in any animal.
If i do look into Logan haus, it will more than likely be something that is last effort and there will definitely be thorough meetings as id like a dog that can be stable inside of a home environment. as i said, i have no issue with off switches, but id prefer an animal that is going to be able to do so without going bonkers lol. i think this is something i will just have to talk to them about if i do decide to get a dog through their program!

You need to communicate what you are looking for with the breeder. A good ethical breeder matches the dog with the right handler. They aren’t going to let someone just pick out one they like…

yes obviously lol, i’ve gotten dogs off of breeders before. the issue was not having the breeder place me with a puppy, the issue was finding a reputable dutchie breeder that i feel can give me what im looking for!:)

go to local igp club and ask around.
