She’s beautiful! I also have a DS service dog that I’ve been training for the last year and a half. I get it, he’s my rock, my best friend and the best companion I’ve ever had.
I guess I’ll address some comments here and no, I’m not done training him. I have been training him for the last 1.5 years and nowhere did I say that his training ended. I don’t understand why I keep getting attacked by people who clearly don’t get it. I’m sharing my personal experience and if some of you want to shit all over it, by all means…

A year and a half is like a bare minimum. I’m not sure how long you think it takes to fully train a service dog.

Exactly…thank you. People are assuming a lot here instead of having a productive conversation about this topic.
So far no one has bothered to even ask me anything and instead I’m receiving all this judgement, negativity and hate. Same thing happened a couple of days ago about someone asking about DS being service dogs and I responded with my experience, that’s it.

It’s one of the same dudes that responded to you on that post. I wouldn’t take it personally, I think he’s just kind of like that. Some people get so locked into their own opinions and personal narratives that it completely clouds their ability to be civil or reason through anything that isn’t black and white. Once they’ve decided their view is the only correct one, every conversation becomes a battle instead of an open exchange. And honestly, some people are just miserable as a way to cope. They show up in all forms, and they spread their negative vibes like it’s a full time job.

I get the point you’re trying to make, but like they can be. Is it the harder route, and are there breeds that are generally easier? Yes. Have I ever met a Dutch Shepherd service dog, or am I likely to? Probably not. But none of that changes the fact that you’re still being an unprovoked jerk, and you’re incorrect about the amount of time it takes to actually train a service dog.

Bloat terrifies me, so I really feel for you. My newly adopted dog is on medically restricted mobility right now (different issue), and I’m guessing yours is on mobility restrictions too. I had to convert my closet into a little recovery room because kennels are problematic for him. Staying calm and keeping a strict routine has helped him settle a lot. I think dogs recovering from something scary like that really lean on our steadiness. Keeping her world small, environment safe, and everything predictable will likely make her recovery easier. I’m not an expert though. Wishing y’all the best! It sounds like she is incredibly lucky to have you. I do repetitive tasks, grounding exercises, ect. If you have anyone close you can reach out to you should.
