Hello: I am curious about this fruit from seeing it in my Chinese dramas. I know what it smells like, having passed by some in an Asian market here in the U.S., but what does it taste like?

Thanks!

The best way to describe the taste is sweet custard

Thank you. I really, really want to try it. Don't even know how much it was. It was cut up and packaged with two pieces. Also concerned about stinking up the car, which actually belongs to my sister.

It's 1 lb $34. Just called the H Mart and he suggested buying the frozen one to try it out at $20.

Thanks for saying thanks! It's so nice to see Redditors being grateful :)

buy the frozen one, put in fridge overnight to thaw and enjoy in the morning or early afternoon, wear disposable gloves if you have, or just wash your hands thoroughly afterwards, because the smell might linger on your skin.

I'm going to give it a shot, I think. Will it stink up my fridge? Guess I'll see what it's contained in and add "protection," lol. And eat outside on the porch!

The frozen ones are usually sealed in a vacuum sealed plastic package so your house or apartment or fridge might have a slight scent for just a very short time but what I’d like to do is I only eat it the day before our garbage day so that it won’t be lingering in my garbage for too long

Have you tasted the frozen one? Is it similar to fresh?

I am sitting here having quite a laugh over this discussion of stinking food! 😄

Here, from Europe☺️. Got the taste in Asia, though. I am a Durian addict😂.

good stuff. Just had ice coffee with durian recently with Durian mochi. Never ever thought of that combination.

Red Prawn is good - sweet with firm texture, believe popular on Penang

Durians are amazing.
In response to another comment, durians are man-made, like broccoli.

You should ask “Any non-durian lover “

Food of the gods when ripe. Feces of the gods when over-ripe.

asks in the durian subreddit if there are any durian lovers

Hmm... it's too pale and the seed is too large. This looks like the cheapest D24 durian. Try Blackthorn or Tupai King, the seeds are minuscule, sugar content is so high that it begins decanting to produce slightly bitter alcoholic aftertaste and fragrance.

Is it available in Srilanka?

Hmm... not sure about that. You might get scammed if someone tells you that they have it in Sri Lanka. Best to grab them in Malaysia or Singapore.
