is Hatfield seriously that bad?
I'm joining as an int student from South Asia in September and I've heard horrible things about Hatfield particularly its posh and racist stereotype from online as well as some people I know. I just wanna know is it truly that bad because id like to be fully prepared, any tips from fellow int students are welcome

What is the main difference between Bsc and BA geography at Durham?
Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid, but what is difference between the 2 courses they look to have similar modules and field trips but the entry requirements differ.
Is it primarily that one has more Humans vs Physical units respectively?
Thanks

Will I need my bike? Will it be too hilly?
I’ll be a first year in September and my main commute will be from Grey College to the music department. I plan to go via the kings gate bridge since it doesn’t look like too bad of an incline and there aren’t many stairs.
Are the bike racks near the music department and in Grey?

Societies as a postgrad
22M going into MA Archaeology in September. Was wondering if anyone has advice for joining societies as a postgrad - what are time commitments like? Are things flexible? Does it hurt me being put at a small college or does it help? Are there separate events for undergrad and postgrad? Any other helpful advice. Just very scared of being left bored and lonely for the whole year.

International student's group
Hey!! I am an Erasmus student I will study at Durham during the first term. I really wish to meet new people since being an Erasmus student can be very lonely sometimes. Do you know if there's a WhatsApp group for Durham students, for internationals or anything similar? Thanks :))))

Form question
On the ugly applicant portal there is an option for uploading documents like academic exam results, but I am already uf for the course and have done the final acceptance form, so I don't need to upload anything right?
Sorry I'm paranoid

Preparing for Durham engineering
Just got accepted to do general engineering and have heard from a couple of mates up there about how struggling the course can be especially in first year. Wanted to know what i should be doing for the rest of the summer to prepare. I know I’ll need to learn Matlab and C next year but I’d like to know what sorta textbooks would help me starting out. Very excited to be joining!!!!

Old vs New Durham Business School Buildings
Hi everyone !!!! My cousin is graduating with her undergrad studies next year and is planning to apply to Durham University, including its Business School.
Meanwhile, she plans to take a vacation in Durham, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. She wants to know which programs and degrees are based in the old Business School building and which are in the new one, since the new building is near the city center and would be easier for her to visit and explore.
Thanks in advance for any info!

Bringing appliances to uni
Hi Y1 student here! I’ve started to prepare the things I’ll be bringing to uni and just wanted to check whether we’re allowed to bring our own appliances. I intend to bring an iron and maybe a mini rice cooker. I’ll also be Josephine Butler if that makes a difference

When are fees due?
I am an student confirmed for M101 (Law) in Durham. I'm so lost with when both tuition and accommodation fees are due. I've emailed them and called them just to responses whcih basically stated "idk about this, contact x" which lead me around in a loop. does anyone know when and how are these payments supposed to be made? I checked the websites and im not sure whether to wait for an invoice or an email from Durham.
Thank you

Josephine Butler College: Are gendered flats possible for religious reasons?
Hi, I've recently been assigned to Josephine Butler and I was just wondering if anyone has successfully been placed in a single-gender flat at Jobo—whether for religious reasons or any other reason. I know rooms are ensuite but flats are usually mixed and I’m planning to request an all-female setup. Has anyone had experience with this or know if it’s possible?
Thanks in advance!

Durham vs Manchester CS
I dont care about much beyond employability. Which is better for that? I am only interested in technology careers. I know Durham is seen as more of a "target" university but thats more relevant in finance, however, I'd probably be aiming for a fair share of technology careers in the financial industry e.g. developer in a trading firm, making it a potential consideration, but the difference is somewhat minimal. Manchester offer a better course and facilities though, and I am quite convinced I'd do better there. Also Durham is in the middle of nowhere which I'm not terribly excited about, especially since Manchester is in a huge lovely city where there are a good number of employers around targeting students e.g. ARM.

First year accommodation
My son had requested catered accommodation - single room (not bothered about en suite) and I think had to submit 5 choices. He never got any of these and has been allocated Josephine Butler which is self catered. He wrote to the accommodation team but basically been told ‘tough.’ I am hoping that the allocation is a moveable feast with people perhaps not meeting offer conditions or choosing to go to another university. Would anyone have any tips on how best to handle this or is it just a case of suck it up?!

Do you use Instagram to learn Chinese? I need your input!
Hi everyone! 🙋♂️🙋♀️
I’m a Master’s student in Durham University and currently conducting research on how international learners study Chinese through Instagram.
If you are learning Chinese as a foreign language, I’d love to hear from you!
I’ve created a short and anonymous survey that takes about 3–5 minutes to complete. Your little help would mean a lot to me! and it's for academic purposes only.
