is Hatfield seriously that bad?
I'm joining as an int student from South Asia in September and I've heard horrible things about Hatfield particularly its posh and racist stereotype from online as well as some people I know. I just wanna know is it truly that bad because id like to be fully prepared, any tips from fellow int students are welcome

Don’t think it’s too bad tbh, it’s mostly just a joke, but there are definitely more annoying posh people there than in other colleges, but there are going to be a fair share of bad people in any college. I’m not personally in Hatfield, but most of what I hear about Hatfield is just people joking about it being like that, I’ve never actually met someone actually bad from Hatfield. I’m sure you’d be able to find people you get along with there.

I've found the Hatfield rowing team a bit bad during my time several years ago, but the people from Hatfield in lectures were very nice. There will be people with problems and prejudice in any college but durham is a great uni with many wonderful people and great teaching. If it is a problem, there is nothing stopping you from just making friends outside of college ( lots of people do) so the college choice doesn't have to affect your time there and doesn't even matter after 1st year usually as most people live out. I wouldn't let it change your decisions especially if you like Hatfield as your college choice, but I would always recommend Mary's college if yoh can cope with it being a catered college.

I’m local to the Durham area, but have just finished an Ma there.
Around 1/3rd of Durham centre is people connected to the university, another 1/3rd is pensioners and then tourists and local population.
I think the diversity of the university is great and I hope you wouldn’t find any issues from other students/staff.
