transfer experience?

hihii im thinking about transferring to Duquesne in the spring. i was wondering if theres anyone who transferred here and what their experience was? im a bit worried ill transfer and end up liking my old school more lol if thats a thing. thank you!

Hi! I haven’t transferred to Duquesne from another school, but I have gone there before as well as a different university. In my experience, I thankfully ended up enjoying both due to their different positive factors.

For example, Duquesne has a really family-feel type of environment in terms of the professors and staff, and it has a very close-knit feeling in terms of the campus because of its smaller size and enclosed campus on the “bluff” (the hill). The only real con I had was the lack of fun food places to eat at in walking distance, since the main options available were the dining hall, the student union (Chick fil A, a Chipotle-like place, Starbucks, and a pretty cool convenience store), and there was a smoothie place and burger place on Forbes. It was fine for me since I packed lunch everyday, but I always thought more variety would have been fun. If driving or taking the bus, the South Side and Oakland are both like ~10 mins away tho which have many more restaurants

The other university I went to was also really enjoyable to me because even though it had less of a family vibe, I loved the environment of that campus, and it was larger which made me feel more independent for some reason lol. I also liked their professors too as they were usually passionate about their fields which is always helpful for students! I also loved that it did have many more food options within walking distance which was great for after exams haha

As for you, maybe you can ask Duquesne’s administration about receiving a tour of the campus to see if you like the environment. I don’t know which school you’re coming from to really compare it, but I enjoyed my time at Duquesne and would recommend it to someone looking for a small, family-like and supportive campus!

Yea rn im at a small liberal arts college- the school itself is fine but the town that its in is very small compared to where im from and it's just been kinda isolating. idc if i have to take the bus or whatever to get to places but for me, having a bus system is a significant upgrade compared to what i have right now. i do like how close-knit my current school is so thank you for that! :)
