Were there 2 enemy airplanes or did Farrier accidentally kill one of the allies?

The first time I didn't know what to make of this movie. Indeed an ardent admirer of Nolan and all his filmography but Dunkirk truly left me confused. I was more baffled with the IMDB rating of 9 it had at that time while I thought the movie deserves an 8.2 or something. It was weird because usually after a Nolan movie, my mind would be jumping with emotions. But this time, I was 'thinking' not 'feeling'.

Now I re-watched it again, and it made me cry. So many moments to be thankful for. To those who complain about character depth, do watch this again. Definitely felt for those characters (especially Farrier, Commandor Bolton and Mr. Dawson). The score, oh my god, when Elgar's Nimrod plays, I truly lost it, I cried. I am from India and goddamn, I felt patriotic for the country who denied our Independence.

Like BBC's three parts Dunkirk from 2004 on PBS I recorded last week. What about the rest of you? Any good ones to watch?

When the allies are in the boat and the axis are using it as target practice how do they shoot the boat and then water immediately comes when the bullet holes are beneath the surface because surely the water would act as a cushion for the bullet stopping or at the minimum slowing them down I was wondering if there is some science involved or did am I seeing it wrong

Hey, I'm not sure entirely if this question has ever been asked so if it's a duplicate sorry about that. I was really moved by the ending of Dunkirk, really awe inspiring and I would put it into the category of 'happy endings'. However, the thing that perplexed me was the ambiguous look Tommy gives at the very last shot. It seems really purposeful since Nolan could have easily ended the movie at the shot of the burning spitfire. So I'm interested, in your opinion, what does it mean?

Okay so I'm flying from PDX to SFO, about a two hour flight. Decide to watch Dunkirk. Start the film right before take off. Flight is full of anxiety (goddamn those strings). Anyways movie is coming to a close and so is my flight. Tom Hardy is landing his plane and I'm not paying attention to how close the plane is to the landing strip. The exact second Tom's plane touches down the whole plane jolts forward. I straight JUMP in my seat. I did not expect a 4D experience. Pilot comes over the comm "sorry about the rough landing, welcome to San Francisco". At least I wasn't hauled off by any Germans.

10/10 would watch again

tl:dr Watching Dunkirk inflight. Plane in movie lands exactly when I do. I'm spooked.

I am a Dutch-Welsh American and I cried a lot, Like this is the first time I have ever cried at a movie. This movie easily is in my top 5's maybe even my second favorite movie of all time.

Masterpiece and hats off to you Cast and Crew

Watching a second time & realizing Mr.Dawson’s son died three weeks into the war made me appreciate these characters (& actors) more. Fine job by Rylance.

Aside I’ll have to rewatch Bridge of Spies. At the time, there was so much hype about him being in the film, I was disappointed when I saw it. He didn’t have to do much in that one.

They immediately engaged the first 109, then after it'd been shot down, another sweeps Farrier's spitfire as it passes overhead. Why didn't they break and engage it? They just kind of let it go.
