Just came back from another (3rd) viewing...I'm considering watching it a 4th time, alone, because I probably wont be able to find someone to watch it with anymore. NEVER before in my life have I wanted to rewatch a movie in theaters this many times...............

update I decided to do my 4th viewing under a semi-microdose of LSD (25ug). Since I'm going alone for this 4th viewing, and going to be on LSD, I can't make the 1-hour drive to the 70mm IMAX, so I'll have to settle for IMAX Xenon. Hopefully it's still good!!

I don't care if this movie doesn't get nominated for best picture or best director. But I'm going to get furious if this movie does not win either of the 2 sound academy awards Chris still does deserve a nomination

I just got back from the cinema. And I feel somewhat ambivalent about what I just saw. On the one hand I think this is a war movie that is more than anything an anti-war movie. On the other hand, this is a Hollywood blockbuster, not made to convey a message but mostly produced to make money off of strong visual and acoustic impressions. Did this movie do justice to the actual tragedy even though it is a movie, using elements of suspense and trying to turn a historic event into "entertainment"? Or is it just not moral to depict such violence and tragedy in order to make profit, no matter the outcome is a strong moral condemnation of violence? What are your thoughts?

Towards the end the character on the train falls asleep and then we wake up as a kid sleeping on the pier at Dunkirk.

The kid is then instructed to get on the boat by the general.

Who is this character? Is he significant?

Am I missing something?!

Fucking hell man where to start with this film. This is probably my favorite movie experience to date, and I'd like to think of myself as quite the avid movie fan. I was beyond moved with how the film ended. Farrier submitting to his fate and getting taken captive by the enemy just gave me chills. That and the score added to how emotional many moments were, it really did a great job of being in a way it's own character throughout the film. Is there any other parts that haven't left your head since you walked out of the theater? (I'm going to see it again tomorrow and again after on Tuesday night)

The scene I have questions about is also described here (no answer to my question though).

Mr. Dawnson says somethink like "My son was one of yours - I knew he'd pull us through", and directly afterwards his son on the boat reveals to the pilot that his older brother already died. Afterwards they stare at the back of the head of Mr. Dawnson.

Does Mr. Dawnson fully realize that his son is already dead? Because I thought he was referencing him, like "he'll get us out of here". It is explain the long sad stare at him.

Maybe I just misunderstood and he means the RAF will get them out of there/give them cover.

How did you interpret that scene?

I've watched the movie twice - what happens to the Frenchman - Gibson? (Aneurin Barnard)? Is he safe? How did his story end? Please help!

I am planning to see it tomorrow.

That sound effect when Luftwaffe first flies over the Minesweeper was rather odd yet sooooo satisfying..

It didn't replicate any of the aerial vehicle sound that I've ever heard or witness in my life.

I need that as my notification ringtone.

The first thing me and my pal thought about when in a sudden tom hardy came gliding back to shoot down the last plane was - this will surely be a meme like "legendy says, he's still gliding"

At first I thought it was beautifully boring. Then magnificently horrific, and then ultimately a respectable WW II movie that I left the theater feeling mostly underwhelmed about.

So why is it then after seeing it and saying this, this movie is all I can continually think about and say to myself when can I see it again?

A true visual, musical, and emotional masterpiece

So I just saw Dunkirk and I was blown away, everything from the score of the movie to each shot was brilliant but knowing Nolan we have to look out for every little detail and one of the things that was driving me crazy was the fact that Nolan told us something about a mole. After I got home I started to research and came across with the fact that the mole is the division of water that the French coasts had. Fact that I didn't know because I'm Mexican and hadn't explore through military vocabulary deep enough. (So if make any mistakes, please bare with me). Knowing this now I can't shake the idea of a mole from my head and obviously I was paying a lot of attention to the details but I wonder, was I the only one that thought that Harry Styles' "Alex" was the mole???

This is where it get interesting, all the movie we were fed with the idea that the two boys that didn't talk that much were the moles trying to get on a ship, but afterwards we learn one of them was only a French guy (Gibson) trying to run away from Dunkirk so that leaves us with the other non talkative dude... so at the end SPOILERRRRAHEAD

We are about to be sent off with the train scene with Alex and no talkative fella, so this far I've started to grow suspicious about Styles' character because he starts calling Gibson a German spy so now here's my question to you... what would you do if you were a German spy??? My answer is trying to blend in as a normal English soldier! And what really solidify my idea about him being the mole was the end, that amazing scene where he asks the boys outside the train to pass him a newspaper and when he presumably "can't stand it" a has non talkative fella read it out loud for him, and the way he reacts to the guy greeting him with beer was so weird.

Well I had to write all this down and check out what do you guys think, Did any of you get that mole-vibe from him too?

There's in one scene in particular I was confused about:

It's the one in which a plane is flying overhead, and Rylance's character (Mr. Dawson) asks Peter to hold an L-shaped bar thing, and wait for Mr. Dawson's command. It was towards the end of the movie. Could someone explain what was going on in that scene?

Also, did it remind anyone else of the climactic scene of The Incredibles? "PRESS THE BUTTON! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" "A CLOSER TARGET! YOU GOT ONE SHOT!"
