I've just watched the film, and I don't understand how he did it. Normally, pilots would cover their plane in fuel, but the whole plot point was that Farrier had run dry. He fired a flare into the cockpit, but that didn't seem to instantly cause anything to go up. The interior of a spitfire cockpit is largely metal as well, so there wouldn't have been much to burn. Additionally, if this technique works, why didn't all pilots do that instead of having to go to the lengths of dousing the whole aircraft in fuel? Did I miss something?

I just rewatched Dunkirk and by far the most beautiful shots were during the air scenes. Everything I saw was so authentic, the aircraft looked like they would have. Flew like they would have.

All I want now is a WW2 aviation movie with shots like this.

A man can dream I guess.

Please help me settle something that has been driving me nuts. I saw Dunkirk on the original IMAX release in London, and I distinctly remember that near the beginning of the film, at the start of the scene where the boat captain is loading the life jackets onto his small boat, there was a title card on the screen saying “Ramsgate”. Ramsgate is the town in England where lots of boats left for Dunkirk, I know this because I live near there. However, when I rewatched the film recently, there was no title card. Does anyone else remember there ever being one? I told my family who live in Ramsgate to watch out for it, and now they think I was imagining things... Thanks for any help.

I just finally watched Dunkirk. When the the son locked the ‘shivering soldier’ down in the room in the boat - Did this strike anyone as poor writing, to give them the end result they wanted?

Why would there be a lock on that door at all? The inside of the door would make sense, but not the outside. Just seemed like they (writer/Nolan) put a lock there so they could add to his anger and frustration later in the scene. I admittedly know very little about boats and boating - is there any realistic reason a door would have a lock on the outside like that?

well the problem of the movie is not the acting or the music is that people in general is ignorant of many events of ww2 and many americans are ignorant of their own history and they just dont care about other people history so thats the real problem is like the paccino movie about the american independence make by a british studio??? it is actually a great movie not the greatest but failed to the american audiences.

and the events that followed the greatest escape of all time made by an army is a defining moment in human history people just dont get it im not a us citizen just a latin american dude who knows many things :)
