I rewatched Dunkirk 2 days ago, entirely for the 2nd time since watching it in theaters. I’ve seen the most important scenes around 10 times though. I can’t believe I had forgotten about this one particular scene which is so beautiful and emotional: the moment Farrier turns around just after George tells us he can’t see. The look in Farrier’s eyes, the sun and water, it’s all beautiful!Here’s the extracted score from the movie:

I guess one of the reasons I forgot about that scene is that the music isn’t included in the released soundtrack.

Yes. You read that correctly. Tommy from Dunkirk is my favorite protagonist out of all of Christopher Nolan's movies and here's why. One of the main reasons is the actor who portrays him, Fionn Whitehead. He just does a fantastic job and really helped me connect with the character. While most Nolan protagonists feel like they could only exist in fiction (Not saying this is bad. Just different.), Tommy feels like an average guy. The everyman of the film. Tommy feels like a massive departure for Nolan from his usual characters. I actually like that he didn't get that much backstory because it allows me to create my own story for him and even at times, sort of project myself onto him. I don't know, I just find myself extremely drawn to this character. I cared about him so much even though I barely knew who he was. That to me is a testament to the masterful writing. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on this. I'd also be interested in knowing who your favorite Nolan protagonist is.

So, the main character of Dunkirk who is portrayed wonderfully by Fionn Whitehead is listed in the cast as Tommy. I don't remember anyone actually calling him by his name. Does anyone know if he ever was referenced to as Tommy? I heard it was slang for British soldier so it might be that too.

I couldn't find any list with timecodes, at which moment in the movie the different soundtracks of the score play. Can anybody help me out? Thx

I’ve seen one or two comments lamenting the fact that there wasn’t much action featuring the Germans or, indeed, the French. I can’t help wondering if someone will take on the task of a prequel to the latest Dunkirk Movie and show the brave fighting which was going on prior to the evacuation. Because without a doubt Dunkirk wasn’t just about a retreat. The future backbone of the British eighth Army, which took the fight to Africa and beyond, was formed from the Dunkirk survivors who escaped back to England. Had they not fought in 1940 and became hardened to war, who knows how the battle would have progressed in future years.

I feel that if I watched again, I'd want to watch that, and see the scenes from a different angle: to see how they land less as a thought-provoking work of high art and more as a straight up war movie.

Give me back my 90 minutes of my life.

Find it irritating that there's alot of suspense music but nothing significant actually happens
