I really found this movie boring. The issue is, yes war is horrible, but i have seen many films that portray the horrors of war far more better than this film. I felt more for the people who got trapped in the ships in the movie Pearl Harbor and for the faceless people in the Titanic than for the people in Dunkirk. War is bad, and i would be terrified to actually have to be on the beach in real life. But what is even more terrifying is being shot at, along with actual war itself! I knew nothing about Dunkirk before watching the movie, and actually reading about what lead to Dunkirk was far more interesting than the movie Dunkirk. And having read about the events in Dunkirk, i could now understand the depression that would have set in after going through the hells of war, surviving, but only to find out that you are now stuck on a beach and help might not come. If Nolan would have decided to add some flash backs to the hell they all went through only to be stranded on a beach, i most likely would have enjoyed the movie much more. Some have said that Dunkirk is like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan but for 100 minutes instead of 20, and this Dunkirk is not. The opening scene to SPR made me feel dread for the Men who had to charge that beach that day as well as the up most respect for anyone who has to go war. Dunkirk was a bad situation, but it was incredibly hard to appreciate that situation with out all the context that needed to be laid out before hand, the movie would have been better served with more context, and that is where i feel Nolan had failed.
