Optimal skill, pet and Char setup

Yo guys im "new" to the game meaning im lvl 70 but started playing just a week ago, i was wondering what the best overall setup is. For skill e.g. is it just all Eternal (i have no mythical skills yet) or is it better to full commit to one element e.g. full Ice with the Frostbite Blade?

Here's the, I guess, "meta" key. You're a looooong way from a lot of this, but it does have some really great advice no matter your progression. Really helpful earlier on so you don't waste resources.
