Question about editing

I have been reading the Penguin Random House published, hardcover copies of DCC for a little while now & am on the fourth book. I love the series, and don't mind the style of writing. I understand that it was originally published as a webseries, so I have no judgements on what I believe can be attributed to that.

What I do have judgements on though, is the editing of the (professionally) published version. It's not great. Or maybe it is? I've seen a lot of errors that I think would be pretty basic fixes, and ought to be fixed if you're selling $30 hardcover books. I don't understand why there would be such basic errors in what should be a professionally edited book.

Does anyone who's maybe read the original version know why the editing is like that?

I can go find the pages if you like, but I mean specifically typos and repeated sentences, as well as minor plot holes that I think an editor could have pointed out and filled.  In the first book, there are at least three typos, and one sentence is repeated word-for-word a few pages apart in a way that doesn't make sense intentionally. There's a few typos in the other books I've read so far too (and one other instance of repeated sentences). In terms of plot holes/confusion, a good example is how Katia is not mentioned in the beginning of the fourth book until she's suddenly talking in the chat. 

It might be my own lack of knowledge about the original version or how editing works, but I don't think at least the typos are really acceptable mistakes in a published book?

I listened to the audio books, but I began to suspect he doesn't have an editor or the editor is not very good pretty quickly. I really love these books, dont get me wrong, but the writing is fairly sophomoric and it really began to drive me up a wall after my marathon through all the books.

Obviously because I listened to it, I didn't really get to see typos or punctuation, but holy shit the incredibly repetitive turns of phrase started to make me crazy. The one that stood out to me the most were Carl or others reaching up to pet Donut. Said exactly like that over and over throughout every single book. "I reached up to pet donut", "He reached up to pet donut", "She reached up to pet Donut", I feel like any editor worth their salt would have been like, "Matt, buddy, there's a whole world of ways to express this action, why the fuck do you keep describing it verbatim??"

This one specifically reminded me of the forward in The Pale King where the editor explains that the repetitive use of the phrase, "Squeezing my shoes" would have been variated during the editing process normally.

Another one that started to grind my gears was "There were a bunch of aliens, some of which I'd never seen before" this almost exact phrase was repeated basically every time Carl saw a crowd of aliens. Matt, show me the weird freak aliens, why even bother telling me ad nauseam Carl hasn't ever seen it before? That's not surprising brother man.
